What historical time period would you love to live in? Write a short story where you're transported back in time to that period. How did you get there? What happens? Do you ever make it home, or do you choose to stay?
Well, if you really want to know, I guess it all started when I got a letter in the mail from a "Dr. Neil Stark." I thought it was quite odd that I received a letter (because I don't usually get mail) and that it was from somebody that I didn't know. The letter contained information about a time machine Dr. Stark had built and how he wanted to test it out on a few people. Apparently I was one of the guinea pigs. I wasn't too enthused that I had to go all the way to California to be sent to another time through a (possibly faulty) time machine. I had nothing better to do, so I booked a roundtrip plane ticket to California.
I arrived in California about five or six hours later. LAX was bustling with many different people. I saw a few celebrities, including Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. (They were probably flying somewhere in Africa to adopt their twentieth baby.) Dr. Stark's assistant was waiting for me near the baggage claim area, holding up a sign with my name in such a stereotypical way. We walked out to the limo, in which we partook in drinking diet coke and talking amongst ourselves.
An hour or so later, we arrived at the office of Dr. Stark. He came out to greet us. "Hello, Ms. Scott. How was your flight?"
"Stop sucking up and let's get this over with," I replied.
"Very well then. Where would you like to travel to?" he asked.
I hadn't quite thought of where I wanted to go. "How about the 1920's?"
"Wonderful. Let's get right to it."
I followed him into the office and back to a large room that contained the time machine and a few other machines I wasn't familiar with.
"This is my time machine. It will take you anywhere you want to go at any given time. Where would you like to go in the 1920's?"
"How about New York City?"
"Perfect."
I walked into the time machine. Dr. Stark closed the door. Thank God I wasn't claustrophobic because the tight space barely gave me room to breathe.
Dr. Stark turned a knob to 1923 and hit a button that whizzed me through many decades. A few minutes later, I fell flat on my butt in the middle of New York City.
After walking around New York City for a while, my feet started to ache and I needed some sleep. I stayed in the nicest hotel you could ever imagine. I fell asleep around eleven 'o clock that night.
I woke up around nine the next morning. I took a bath (they didn't have showers-EW!) and got ready for the day. I walked out of the hotel and right into the middle of a large crowd of people. They looked homeless, and they stood outside of a large truck. All of a sudden I hear "head's up!" I turn around to find a turkey thrown in my direction and many homeless people gathering around me to catch it.
I thought to myself, "I've had enough of this time period. I want to go home."
I pressed the button on my belt and was whizzed through time periods back into the time machine in 2010.
Dude, I would want to live in the Palaeozaic or the Mesozaic Era, for sure.
I woke up in an unfamiliar place. Somehow I ended up in the middle of a huge forest, laying on the earth's moist surface. I felt a vibration, and it kept getting stronger. I looked behind me, and to my horror there was a stampede of creatures. I struggled to get under a log for protection. As the creatures jumped over the log, I discovered they weren't just ordinary creatures. They were DINOSAURS!
Lonely and confused, I walked around the area. There was no signs of humans. So I went on an adventure to make a friend or two (preferrably with a long-neck).
Nearby a body of water, there were HUGE nests with GIGANTIC eggs. These were nests of long-necks, for sure. All the parents must have been out looking for food, because no one was there. I decided to sit around and wait for them to come back.
From the corner of my eye, I saw something move fast as lightening. I saw it again. It was a raptor! The raptor was trying to steal the poor eggs!
I was so mad. Taking a huge branch, I whacked the raptor in the head, thus making the egg fly out of its arms. Never letting my eyes off the innocent victim, I was able to catch it before it landed on the ground. I scared the horrible raptor away and gently put the egg back.
Fortunately, the long-necks came back just in time to wittness my heroic act. We had a long conversation about those evil raptors. The long-necks showed their appreciation for me by giving me my own nest to stay in, and offered meals.
......................................
I have to admit, the food took a while to get used to, but I love it now. I've made many friends here. The long-necks have showed me their ways. Now, I am one of them. I talk with them, eat with them, roam with them...etc. I even started growing in my first scale, and already have a horn! It's very exciting, indeed.
There is nothing that would make me go back to 2010. :)
One day I saw a brown box labeled time machine. I didn't really think it would work, but I was curious so I stepped inside. To my surprise it started making beeping noises. I was transported to the 1940's. I got to meet Bing Crosby. He taught me a few songs and a couple dance steps and then gave me tickets to see his show. After that I was allowed to see him film his movie Holiday Inn. After that I went to see other big bands play and learned to dance the jitterbug. When I went to the movies I got to see Katherine Hepburn, Ginger Rogers, and Elizabeth Taylor. I was tired after that so I went home and listened to programs on the radio then went back to my own time.
It was a stormy, dark Friday night on the 13th of August when I was driving on a rural road. It was storming extremely badly. I was listening to the radio and they just announced a tornado warning. It was headed right towards me when suddenly a lightning bolt struck the tornado. My car started to stall and the radio station started going crazy. The tornado was also going crazy and sucked me and my vehicle up. I was spinning around and suddenly I blacked out.
When I woke up, it was still dark out and I was in a corn field. My car would not start, so I started walking to find help. As daybreak approached and I reached a town, I was beginning to realize how different everything looked. I went into this old, old gas station and asked the guy working there where I was and what time period this was. I knew that is was a stupid question, but my head was hurting and I just wanted to know. So the guy, of course, looked at me like I was an idiot and told me that I was in the town of Atwood, Kansas and it was the 1950's. I was shocked and confused, but I always wanted to live in the 50's, so I decided to not question how I got there and just live it up and learn about it. As I was walking down the street a book store had a huge sign saying "New release! Dr. Seuss. The Cat in the Hat! Get it now! It was also all over the news that Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on the bus. I loved the 50's. It was so much simpler. Color TV was also just introduced. I decided that I wasn't going back to 2010. I was going to stay in the 50's and live the simple life.
On a cold winter night i was sleeping in my bed with a million blankets and then i had a dream that i was taken back to the time of troy. I was the daughter of Hector the prince of troy. I got to roam the whole town of troy. I got to see every little inch of the great wall and all the people inside of it. I got to ride horses out to the see lines around the boarders. I found a million tunnels under the castle. I got to visit all the temples and learned how to use a sword. I got to dress up in the most amazing robes. When i woke up i relized i was still in that time and i couldn't figure out how to get back but i didn't care. I'd rather spend every day being waited on hand and foot and roaming the city then comming back to this time and doing everything.
The history of Troy is one of the favorite things of mine. I don't really know why but its just interests me so much and this was acctually way before we read the story in english. I've been obssesed about it since 8th grade. Whether or not it has to do with the movie or not i'm really not sure but i do enjoy it. So that would be the one place i wish i could go. The time of hero's and wars and gods. :D
I was walking down the street when i noticed a playground. I walked around a bit when i decided to build a sand pyramid. I had just finished the top and I was adding the Nile river when all of a sudden I started sinking into the sand. It was quicksand! I was sinking in quicksand! I reached for something, anything to keep me from sinking. I was now submerged in sand and everthing was going dark. Just when I had given up all hope, there was a blast of light and I found myself in the middle of a village. Everyone was looking at me, all dressed in Egyption clothing. I saw old time buildings, camels, and in the background I saw giant pyramids. I soon became these peoples leader. They thought i was a god sent to them to guide them through the hard times they were enduring. I did what I could to play along. I had become one of the greatest pharaohs in all history. I had saved all of Egypt as well as lead them in to battle against I giant army of vikings. I spent the rest of my life in this time period and helped change the path of history to what it is today. If I had not been sucked into that sandbox, the world as we know it would have been very different.
Once upon a time there was a terrible, destructive war that tore apart families and pitted a country against itself. I was twelve when the war broke out. Twelve years old without a mother, living in the South when the rest of my relatives lived in the North. I lived with my older sister Savannah, who was a cripple, and my younger brother John. John was only ten, but he was already dreaming of going to war. I hated the war. There was no food, no new clothes, and my father and brothers gone. One day, I found a dead soldier in our cow pasture with a note pinned to his body. It said, "Nobody shot me. I done myself in, I could'n stand it no longer." This really got to me, making me wonder about my father and brothers. Suppose they had done themselves in too? I kept the note and some money I found in his poickets and made my way home. Hopefully he didn't have any family waiting to hear from him. And hopefully his money can get us through a couple weeks. Hopefully it'll all be over soon, because the war is on our doorstep and we don't got nowhere to go.
So, that is slightly depressing, but I am fasinated by the civil war. It just blows my mind that a country could kill it's own people like that. But I would definitely not want to live in that era. Maybe like morph into the background for a couple of hours but that would be long enough for me. The End.
Somehow I had managed to fall into a deep hole deep in the woods, and I couldn’t get out of it because it was so deep. Never before had I felt so helpless. I couldn’t cry out for help, for no one would hear me, and there was no point in trying to climb out again. Another attempt would just end up being a failure, just like the other thousands of times before.
It wasn’t until I had finally sat down when I noticed that a pile of brown, dead brush was covering what appeared to be some sort of a tunnel. Curious, I moved the brush inside and examined what all I could see from there. Seeing no other alternative in getting myself out of the hole, I ventured into the tunnel. If it was going to free me of this ‘prison’ that I was in, then there would be nothing to complain about.
But I did happen to find something to complain about. Once I had entered the tunnel, it seemed like I had been walking in it for hours. It was dark and I couldn’t see where I was going at all. For all I knew, I had walked to the center of the earth. If that was the case, then I was in big trouble. That was mostly because I had no idea how I’d ever get back to where I belonged.
Then suddenly I saw a light up ahead. How could I have not noticed that before?
When the sunlight finally hit me, after I had made it out of the tunnel, I stood there in awe. I definitely wasn’t in Wisconsin anymore. Before me was a huge Aztec pyramid. It was one of the most beautiful structures that I had ever seen in my life. I was so tempted to run toward the pyramid to get a closer look, but I wasn’t the only person around the area. As far as I could tell, the Aztecs were about to make a human sacrifice to one (or more) of their gods.
Everything about them, from what I could see from the tunnel’s entrance, was phenomenal. The way they dressed, their homes, and everything else was just too much to take in all at once. However, I did a double take when I noticed some of the Aztec people were making their slaves climb up the pyramid. That made me want to get out of their while I still had the chance. It was God’s Feast Day, in which the Aztecs sacrificed their slaves to the gods in order to have sustenance provided for them. Ruh roh!
So back into the depths of the dark tunnel I went, hoping that I would return back to my own time or at least one where human sacrifices were frowned upon…
Summertime always means auctions and antiquing with my mom, grandma, and aunt. On this particular trip, while wandering away from the slow adults, I can across an old wooden trunk. The owner wasn't asking much for it, as it had seen some wear and tear in it's life. It was a dark wood, with details etched into the edges. The lock on it was a tarnished gold, and it squeaked as I opened it. I never even got a glimpse of what was inside it before I was teleported back to the Renaissance.
While there, I met with Michelangelo and watched him create the David, and even painted a little of the Sistine Chapel. I also discovered the secret of Mona Lisa's smile. I spent the rest of my days traveling around Europe, staying in each place for a few months. Many years later, I visited a Florence market. In this market was a new trunk, one which I vaguely remembered from a long time ago. I had been searching for this trunk for a long time. While I loved the Renaissance, I was ready to return to my own time. I reached for the trunk and pulled it open.
They call me Pochahontas. Well no, not really, but I did know her.
My son, Simon and his friend Toby asked for a pan from the kitchen. They said they needed it for a science kit they were putting together that they ordered from scholastic reader. And that is when it happened. One second, I was standing in the kitchen with a basket of popovers, the next I was witnessing the very first boyscout campfire. The pan took me back a long ways until I found myself surrounded by otters and birdies underneath a willow tree better known as Grandmother Willow. The girl was tan and lean with blue streaks in her hair. We became close friends and I soon found out that while I was becoming close friends with Pocahontas, my son and his friend had turned into Miko and Flit.
I was inside a hot air balloon. My dad owns a hot air balloon company, so I have my license and I can basically take it out for a ride whenever I want. It was the year before college, and at this point my life was stressful, and I needed to just get away for a while. The hot air balloon was loaded up with food and blankets. The air balloon was off the ground, and that where my adventure began. I floated and floated for hours. After a while underneath the balloon there was a great fog, and I could no longer see for miles and miles. I could only see in front of me. I got bored and fell asleep. I'm not really sure how long I slept, probably for a long time becuase I was exhausted!
There was a huge crack and a bang. I could feel part of the basket jabbing into my body, and I woke up. The balloon has landed. I did not plan for it to land. It was designed to fly for days without me steering it. This made me wonder if I was asleep for days. I knew I was tired and stressed, but I couldn't have possibly slept for DAYS. Anyways I ventured out trying to get a feel for where I could possibly be. All I could see was whiteness. It was snow. Not just snow, but I have landed in the middle of a ski resort! Looking around, I knoticed that these people were not dressed like me. I was wearing a black sweat shirt with a white jacket over top of that. These people were wearing NEON, nean pink, neon orange, neon yellow, neon everything. It was like I was in the middle of a freak circus! It felt like I was in a completely different world! Even their hair was gerastically different. Unlike mine, theirs was poofy, and they wanted it to be that way! What kind of people would WANT their hair to be POOFY!? Next thing I knoticed was the music that was playing in the backround. It was like old music. I've heard this music before, sometimes my mother would play it on the radio when I was little. Could this be!? I was somehow transported into the 80's. I have no idea how I got here, but I did not like it! I wanted to go home, or somewhere, anywhere but here. Over the next couple days I blended in so people wouldn't think I was a freak from the future. I wore neon clothes and I even poofed my hair a little( just a little). I managed to fix the basket of my hot air balloon and I secretively sailed away.
For hours I was floating through the air. I was NOT going to fall alseep this time! Around 10 hours of floating I saw a huge fog in the distand to the north. I figured that the fog was some type of time machine. It was only a guess, but you have to risk it for the bisquit. As I travelled through the fog I fell asleep again. I was awakened by yet another crash. I woke up and frantically jumped out to see if I made it home. I looked around and...no POOF! I was home!!
One minute I was in 2010 the next I was in the early 1800s. All I remember was there was this flash of light and a buzzing in my ears and then I woke up in the middle of a dirt road with a horse-drawn carriage coming right towards me.
I quickly scrambled out of the way of the oncoming carriage. A few feet farther on the carriage pulled over. A man who later introduced himself as Henry Moore, came up to me and helped me up. He asked if I was alright, which I was, and helped me into his carriage. He took me to his home which was HUGE! It had to cost millions. So he helped me out and everything. He got me pretty dresses and lots of jewelery.
Years later, after Henry and I had been married, I heard a distinct buzzing in my ears that sounded vaguely familiar. Then in another flash of light, just as Henry was coming into the room, I was back in my own time.
After my trip back in time, I had grown a fondness for antique like things. While at a bazaar in France I came across a unique box that had a unique key hole that looked similar to a box that Henry had had. Henry had given me a "key to his heart" to wear on a necklace so that if he was ever away I would have something to remember him by. I bought the box and tried the key on my necklace in the key hole. I turned the key and heard a click. The lid eased open with a creak and the only thing inside was a letter. It was a letter from my dear Henry. It said that he hoped he would find me again sometime and that his heart still belonged to me.
The instant I had put the letter back in the box and locked it, there came the buzzing again.
So I walked out of the woods confused of where I was. I looked around and saw nothing familiar. All of the sudden I stopped dead in my tracks terrified! Just a few paces to my left, there was a dinosaur. I was very frightened until I realized it was a friendly vegitarian.
As I walked up closer to it I noticed something up on a hill. I looked closer and to my surprise it was two people. Not just normal people, but cavemen people. All i could think was what the heck, what happened. I ran up to where the people were.
I'm still not sure how, but somehow we spoke the same language. So I tried to figure what happened by talking to them. The seemed like they new exactly what happened. Apparently I had been thrown back in time and appeared there all because of some tribal dance thing they did. Weird... but yeah. S
So they took me to their village and watched me for a while. I got creeped out by them all just standing there staring at me so I went and tried to talk to them. When I approached, they all just ran away. So I wandered around until I found their leader. He was nice so we were able to have a nice discussion and he decided later that night, he would gather his people to do another magic dance to send me back to now.
So that night they did. Or at least I'm pretty sure. I don't remeber anything about it. The last thing I remeber is people coming towards me, then waking up back in city in 2010.
I can hear guns shooting left and right as my family and I sneak through the gutters of Germany. Hitler is a few miles away giving one of his famous speaches to his Nazi soldiers. Every secnond of the day I wonder how I got here and why he is trying to get the people I call family? I want to know what is going on, but there is no time to think. If I get caught I will be killed for no reason, but the fact that Hitler doesn't like my family I guess. The days go on to weeks and then to months in the gutters and we have no food. I just want to be home with my real family. I close my eyes and imagine home with all of my electronics and warm bed. Before I know it I am back home and have no clue what just happened. My life was just changed before my eyes.

ReplyDeleteIt wasn’t until I had finally sat down when I noticed that a pile of brown, dead brush was covering what appeared to be some sort of a tunnel.
ReplyDeleteWhile there, I met with Michelangelo and watched him create the David, and even painted a little of the Sistine Chapel.
ReplyDeleteMy son, Simon and his friend Toby asked for a pan from the kitchen.
ReplyDeleteThere was a huge crack and a bang.
The End

I don't know what you think of this, but seriously this is probably the best thing I have ever written! No joke!!!
ReplyDeleteJenni;
ReplyDeleteI thought that this was a very funny story! Great job!
P.S. Unfortunately, I poofed my hair and wore neon back in the day ;-P
One minute I was in 2010 the next I was in the early 1800s. All I remember was there was this flash of light and a buzzing in my ears and then I woke up in the middle of a dirt road with a horse-drawn carriage coming right towards me.
ReplyDeleteI quickly scrambled out of the way of the oncoming carriage.
ReplyDeleteAs I walked up closer to it I noticed something up on a hill.
