So, there is NOT a The Catcher in the Rye movie. J.D. Salinger flatly refused to sell the rights to this novel. He was against phonies and capitalists, and Hollywood (in his opinion) was nothing but phonies and capitalists. (Think about how Holden felt when D.B. moved to Hollywood to write movies.) Salinger did leave the door open for the rights to be sold once he died...and he recently died...so maybe someday there will be a movie.
Sorry!

hey hey hey! yesterday I was randomly watching TV and this movie popped on called "The Good Girl" with jennifer aniston, jake gyllenhal etc...and its about this girl at a grocery store who isnt happy with her life and she meets this awkward boy named Holden (He said he was named after Holden Caulfield...but really he just calls himself Holden) and the whole movie is about how he acts like holden caulfield and they fall in love or something....and at the beginning he kept reading Catcher in the Rye...what great timing!!! But yeah I didn't get to watch the rest of it, only the beginning but you may want to check it out!
