It's Career Day at CHS. I realize that many of your careers aren't going to be represented, but what are you excited to hear today? What careers would you have liked to see? What do you plan on being when you get out of school?
A teacher. Preferably special needs. I absolutely love helping kids. Which maybe is why I handle alzhiemers so well. I just want to help people. I want to make a dofference. I wanna feel like I matter and the only way I feel this way is when I'm helping someone. There are a few things im scared of though. Like fire drills absolutely scare me. The sound especially and always know what to do. What would scare me is being in a classroom with special needs and a fire drill happens and they freak out. Ive seen it happen, many times. People with alzhiemers too. Noise, in general, isn't good for those groups. But, I'm willing to work on that to become who I wanna be. The first year out of school I want to work. Pay for my education myself. Not going to be easy, but I'll make it happen. Since I was in preschool I've wanted to be a teacher. It used to be math until I got my job and I knew right where I belong. Teaching can be rewarding in so many ways. Especially when you have kids because all time out of school u can spend with them. Plus, I could keep a close eye on behavior and grades. Teaching is what I really want to do. problem with this is working as a teacher you have to get up in the morning. Not really my thing. I'm worse than a bear in the morning. I guess I'm working on it though. I don't know why but I care so much for those who need help. Rather it's school or a problem in life. I don't deal well with emotions but I certainly care for those who can't do things for themselves. Sometimes these people don't always get the attention and support ad help that they need. I signed up for teacher today, but my mother called and now I have to take alex to an appointment today and won't be able to go. I always put other people's needs before mine which isn't always a good thing, but can be real rewarding sometimes.
ReplyDeleteI think that I signed up to hear about being a dentist, an EMT, and an engineer--plus the two special interest sessions. I am pretty excited for the special interet talks, although I do not remember what one is about. The other is human trafficking. I have been hearing a lot about anit-trafficking activism locally, but I have not partaken in any of it. I think that the careers will be moderately interesting. I recently heard that dentists have the highest suicide rate, though. I probably won't ask the speaker why that is, even though I would sort of like to know. I want to go into molecular biology, so it would have been cool to hear from somebody in that field.
ReplyDeleteWell, I am mostly looking forward to the teacher career. I am planning on being an elementary teacher. I am really looking forward to being in this career because it is something that means a lot to me. It is not something I just think I would be good at, I want to be a teacher because I want to make a difference in the lives of children. I think that it is super important for kids to get an education. If you really think about it, these children are going to be our leaders, so it is important that we educate them. It is my dream to travel to other countries like India and Africa to teach less fortunate children. It is something that I am going to work super hard for because it is what I have always wanted to do. Anywhoo...I am excited to see what today is going to bring!
ReplyDeleteI am looking to hearing about the human trafficking and nutrition speakers. I would have like to hear from a nurse or a nurse practitioner because that is what I would like to be when I graduate.
ReplyDeleteI was excited to listen to the police officer. After high school I want to go to school for natural resource management and law enforcement. I want to be a park ranger which is pretty much like a cop. It was really interesting, I liked listening to her speak. I asked a lot of stupid questions but she answered them truthfully.
ReplyDeleteThere were lots of interesting speakers. I especially liked the Nutrition guy, and the Engineer. I am going to Stout for Computer Engineering next year, and I'm really excited for it.
ReplyDeleteToday I looked forward to listening to the Fire/EMT presentation. I am very into the medical field and am highly considering becoming an EMT sometime in the future. I wish they would have asked a nurse or someone that is the doctor side of the medical field to come and tell us about what they do. The reason that I think that a nurse would have been good to listen to is because I am going into nursing to be an RN.
ReplyDeleteI was really looking forward to Gretchens. obviously i know her and I was looking forward to listening to something I was actually interested in. It was fun to listen to the parts of her story I havnt heard before. I also liked Jenny Almquists. The whole thing is really interesting and super sad. I love love loved mrs. keltners. I never had her for a teacher but she is such a sweet lady! I wish there would have been someone from the art profession/ graphic design but I know we dont have many of those in this area.
ReplyDeleteI was most excited to listen to the teacher and social worker, and they were both fantastic. Wanting to become a teacher and being with teachers all day, I sort of already knew everything she explained she did in her day. The social worker was interesting, I could I never do some of the things she does. I could never go to someone’s house without them knowing and have to take their kids away from them, even if it was the right thing to do because of a issue like child abuse. Over all, I think the Career day was good and a lot of people enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteI thought that the career day was an interesting change in events. I think that the most important one to me was the engineer, but she was not in the same type of engineering field that I am interested in. I thought that the Cad Technician, Surveyor ,and Nutrition/Health Wellness were also pretty interesting. Overall I thought that most of them were interesting, but I am not entirely sure how useful they were to me.
ReplyDeleteI was most excited to hear from the EMT's because they help save lives and that is realli inspiring to me. I would have enjoyed if a nurse, cna, and doctor came in. They play a very important role in the health career. There are many nurses and CNAs so I would have loved to hear their job experiences! And I would have asked them a lot of questions since the medical field is what I am interested in. I hope after i attened Winona, I can become a sucessful nurse and try to make a small difference in the world.
ReplyDeleteI would have enjoyed seeing a presentation at least relatively close to what I plan to pursue as a career. Unfortunately, there was almost nothing that correlated with Behavioral Neurology. I of course enjoyed hearing what everyone had to say, but I don't think the information was essential to me. I'm not opposed to learning about other careers though.
ReplyDeleteThe health and nutrition guy was really good. I think he kind of got into my head. Last time, I was so hungry and I was going to eat a granola bar but I looked at the nutrition lable and it looked bad so then I ate a banana. That definitely something I've never done before.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't even aware that there were even such thing as "career day". I come to school 3rd hour and to much of my surprise Mrs. Fehr told me to go to the sessions I had signed up for. Confused, I told her I didn't sign up for anything. So, basically what happened was I walked around for a little while before I finally sat in on the Human Trafficking session. I don't really have any comments towards it besides the fact that I found it very upsetting to know that things like that are actually happening. They didn't have anything that appealed particularly towards with what I would like to do when I grow up, but that's alright.
