What did you think of the test yesterday? For all your complaining, most of you did well :-)
We are going to start a new unit today - The Restoration and Enlightenment. The Restoration part is due to the fact that the monarchy is back on the English throne and the Puritans are told to take a hike. Charles I shows up from France and reopens the theaters and music halls. He gets people writing again, and not just religious works.
The Enlightenment belongs to the philosophers and scientists. We talked about Enlightenment your sophomore year. If you remember, EVERYTHING should be able to be proven by scientific inquiry. If you can't prove it, it doesn't exist.
So, not a smooth transition, but here it goes. Two summers ago, I took a class in philosophy. It was very interesting - and thought-provoking. How interested would you be in going a little off topic and discussing some philosophy? Maybe doing a little research project on it and how it pertains to this time period? Discuss and let me know.

Well I'm pretty sure that test kicked my butt! haha but I'm definetly excited to start a next unit! I'm not very big on research projects but this could be pretty interesting to look into!
ReplyDeleteBuh Bye!!!
Id be interested! I like research anything!!! I'm open to new things because i'm sure it will help in college! And i thought that test sucked, how were we supposed to memorize which stanza was which? But i checked my grade and i suprised myself so i will now quit complaining =) But ya i say lets go for it and learn about some philosophy!
ReplyDeleteUm, I thought that the test was really specific and sort of hard. I wasn't expecting it to be quite that specific. I didn't do that bad on the test, but I am not happy with my grade either. Um, like Olivia I am not very big on research projects, especially if that topic turns out to be boring to me. I am however willing to learn about philosophy to see what it is all about.
ReplyDeleteThe test killed me. I might as well just have buried myself yesterday. When a few questions asked about the third stanza in a poem, I was thinking to myself, WHOA, I can barely remember my locker combination! Oh well, there will be more test to redeem myself.
ReplyDeleteI hope that the research paper that Mrs. Myers is calling, "little," is as little as she says it is. There are some things that are not meant to be proven. This philosophy thing could be fun.
YES RESEARCH PROJECT!!!
ReplyDeleteI am sick of just reading out of the book.
I haven't taken the test yet but I am sure nervous! Being sick is not fun.

I agree with Kevin...(not going to write his whole name). I think that some philosphical things should be left out in the open. I think that it would be a good transition to write a short paper about philosophy. I think that the test was pretty easy all around, but I think that some questions were impossible to answer.
ReplyDeleteI think it would very interesting to do a research project in the area of philosophy. It would be nice to get some discussion going (even though there's only two other people with me :D) I wish I was able to be a part of a discussion with lots of people for this topic because I love hearing other people's views and opinions on different subject matter. I haven't taken the test yet because I was sick, but I am still a little nervous even if people did well :D
ReplyDeleteI would be ready to start a research project about philosophy. I feel that doing a research paper would be a lot more profitable from a classroom stand point because reading poems is starting to get tiresome.
ReplyDeleteAs for the test, I was not prepared to take it. I should have read over each poem once or twice to get a better feel of what was going on in them. I mean we can't all be like Luke as ace every test that is given to us;)
Well, I'm open to the idea of discussing philosophy, but I really do not want to do a research project on it. But I guess that anything would probably be better than reading out of our text book. At the moment, I am feeling swamped in schoolwork and I really would hate to get a research project.
ReplyDeleteWe should study some philosophy and not do any papers or research OR tests on it!! I feel that we have so much to learn that we just memorize it for the time being and then forget it. Maybe if there wasn't that stress, we could really take the time to understand what is going on.
I totally agree with Rachael! Philosophy sounds kind of interesting, but not if we have to do a bunch of research on it. I think it would be cooler if we just discussed it without any big projects.
ReplyDeleteAs for the test... It was alright. As many people already mentioned, some of the questions were a little specific, but I guess everone did okay on it. We are probably just underestimating ourselves!
I thought the test was hard. I knew the general idea of the poems, but I was unaware that I would have to know about the first or third stanza. So that all made me a little nervous. Usually the essays are the part of the test I struggle more with, but for this test those seems better than some of the multiple choice.
ReplyDeleteI don't know about the philosophy, it sounds stressful, and I don't need anymore stress, but I don like it better when we do one subject for a longer period of time then do little piece of everything. It is hard to remember.
