Community service is very important. What community service activities have you participated in where you have felt like you've really made a difference? Will you continue to perform community service once you've graduated from high school?
Honestly, I haven't done an astounding amount of community service. In the past I have participated in something called the 30 hour famine. A group of people raise money together for world hunger and then fast for 30 hours. I have also volunteered at a soup kitchen, but that was only like twice. Last summer I volunteered at the nursing home for a while, and the summer before I was a counsler at bible camp. I would really love to go on a mission trip somewhere and build houses or something like that. But anyway. Yeah thats it.
ReplyDeleteI shovel quite a bit for people. And rake leaves in the fall. Every Friday I deliver food down in the Elementary end. That makes me feel good, because the little kids there always say hi and stuff, and its really nice. Other things I have done, is readside cleanup and lake monitoring. Those are both fun to do because you never know what you will find out there. I will probably find some community stuff to do after I graduate, one because it feels good to do it, and two because it helps you get out there and make a name for yourself.
ReplyDeleteI have pretty much only done community service stuff that involves the school. I have worked at the Relay for Life twice, which was a fun experience to see all of the people walking for a cure! For volleyball we did a Digging for a Cure wich if I remember correctly we made either $2000 or $4000! I've worked the blood drive, helped clean the 18 mile creek and the environmental sight, and little stuff like working concession stands. I like doing community service work it makes me feel good! I plan on doing community service hours in college. Well actually it's a requirement for basketball, plus I am going to be on an Honors Society for college, and I believe we have to do community service hours for that too! :)

I haven't done a ton of community service, but I've done enough for NHS. Once a week during one of my study halls, I give a middle schooler guitar lessons. Ive helped with relay for life and I've done some stuff with the senior center. I also have done some stuff with churches in Menomonie and projects they have done. I've also done some concession stands for NHS and some other groups. During college I will still try do some, but I think my schedule will be pretty full, at least at the start. It would be good to still get at least some in next year.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite community service thing that ive done was when i went to panama...it wasnt really community service but it was world service! It was awesome to get to help out with the children! My other fav for our community is writing the letters to the little kids!
ReplyDeleteI have never done community service, we don’t have that in Sweden and I haven’t got a chance to try it here yet. But I think I will, it’s a good thing and it doesn’t take very much of your time. What I have done, that can be compared with community service, is every Christmas I used to bake cookies and bring to my grandparents friends that were too old to bake themselves. Then I work a lot at home, but I get money for that so it’s not the same thing.

I don't know if it's considered community service, but I give blood a lot to the Red Cross. I feel amazing after I give blood, like I'm helping people around the world. :D
ReplyDeleteThis last fall I helped my grandpa organize Our Lady of Fatima school sponsorship program. Our parish priest is from India and he built a school in India. My family helped with it by donating money and organizing the sponsorship. I sponsor a little girl from there. I give her 10 dollars a month. The 10 dollars goes to her lunch for that month. It only cost them 30 cents a day to eat. Crazy huh? Anyway, I helped my grandpa with that and I really enjoyed it. I have also worked at the Relay for Life. That was fun. I have worked at the Crisis Pregnancy Center and at the Hope Gospel Mission. I have played bingo at the Nursing home, roadside clean up etc...I will hopefully continue to do community service after I graduate because I think it is really important. In fact, this gave me an idea on what to write my persuasive paper on.
ReplyDeleteI've done quite a bit of community service through clubs i've been in throughout the years. I help my dad plow driveways in the winter like every year. I do roadside clean-ups for clubs and I do it on my own too. I volunteered at the blood drive this year, I've given blood before too(if that counts), I've helped out at church functions for different churches,i've coached 5th grade basketball with Chuck Brown and helped at practices for Coach Doucette with a few other girls, I've baked cookies for the nursing home, worked in concessions stands for various things, and more. I like doing community service just because it makes me feel like a better person. i like to think that I made someone's day that much better too, even if it's a small thing I did. :)
ReplyDeleteSpecial Olymics is what i've mostly beeing involved in becaue of Sarah Bear. I feel like it makes her happy and i love watching those kids smile. It is just a blast to be around them and when you help them they really love you for it. I will definantly continue to be a part of it not just becasue Sarah is in it but beacue i really enjoy doing it.
ReplyDeleteI don't go out of my way very much to do community service, unfortunately. In middle school I had everyone in my grade bring their stuffed animals, and I brought it to some place in the cities for poor orphans. They took my picture and I was in their newspaper. It made me feel really wonderful for giving. I still go to benefits and help out, but I haven't done much else. I guess I'll continue that after high school, I don't see why graduating would change anything about that.
ReplyDeleteI do quite a bit of community service for NHS. I haven’t done anything grand, but it’s the thought that really matters. I’ve done some charity work, roadside clean-up, and assisted someone with their campaign this past summer. I really enjoy doing stuff like that for others. And I’ll definitely be doing community service when I get the chance in college.
