Discussion Topic

You should have read "Female Orations" and "Eve's Defense" for today. How do you think a male speaker might have responded to the speeches in "Female Orations"? What do you think of Eve's argument that Adam is to blame for the fall of humankind? Discuss!

  1. Female Oration was definetly from a female point of view and I am sure that men would have much different ways of looking at it.

Also, I think that Eve was ttrying to blame Adam eventhough did what she wasn't supposed to do and drug Adam into it. I think that they are both to blame because they both did what they weren't supposed to do. Yes, Eve argues that Adam didnt' tell her, but she still let Satan convince her to eat the fruit.

  2. A male would probably respond by saying that they do just as much as we do. Although it is true that men work and earn money, women now days have to work outside the home and when they get done with work, work inside the home as well. Women do a lot of work around the home, and men do some but most of the time come home and relax. Of course men would argue with this, and say they do all of the outside work around the house but they don't have to do that everyday. I think that Eve's argument is very valid. Adam knew exactly what he was doing and if he knew he shouldn't have eaten the apple he shouldn't have. It is just as plain and simple as that. =)

  3. I agree with what we discussed in class. Females do have an advantage however it has not always been that way for us. Also, in Eve's apology I agree that both the men and women had a role in the fall of human kind.

  4. As a male, I do not have such a response to this writing and a girl might think that I would. Women are great and everybody knows it. Men do a lot of physical work, and women do a lot of work that has to do with keeping men alive, such as feeding us and doing taxes so bad people do not take away our houses.

It was mostly Adam's fault for not telling Eve that the fruit from the tree was poisonous. The reason that Eve wanted to eat the fruit was because she loved Adam and wanted him to be happy with her. Adam was stupid enough to let Eve and himself eat the apple. There was a possibility that Adam had some thinking problems! Although, Eve was the one who was tricked by the sly snake.

  5. Kevin was very nice in saying that women are great.
I think that if men back then read what was written about them, they would get mad and say that women don't appreciate them. But the writing isn't really relevant for this time period, so I don't know what the fellas would say about it now...
I think that it was both Adam and Eve's fault because neither one of them had to give in to the pressure. But it wasn't a very smart decision by Adam to not tell his wifey the truth about the fruit.

  6. Men would think that this work of literature is wrong and very misleading. From the beginning you could definitely tell that it was written by a woman.
Adam should have told Eve that she should not eat the fruit from the tree. Eve did wrong but so did Adam, and he knew that it was bad for him.

  7. I don't really agree with "Female Orations" when she says that women have an advantage. I think that men and women are equal because we both have our strengths and our weaknesses. I think that it's true that women are beautiful, but men are handsome. :) And men are stronger, but women are more nurturing and caring. Who can say that beauty is better than being handsome or that strength is better than caring?

And I think that both Adam and Eve were to blame.
