Test Day!
The test today is on Life's Limitations. What did you think about this chapter? Did it make you stop and reflect on carpe diem (seize the day) and how quickly life flies past? Did you just read it because you had to and really didn't pay any attention to what you were reading? Let's discuss this unit.

Overall I thought the authors of the poems we read did a good job of getting their points across. I especially enjoyed reading passages from the King James Bible. The 3rd chapter of Eccesiastes, the 23rd Psalm, and the parable of the Prodigal Son were not only written well, but can be related to our lives as well. Many of the other poets were a little too out there for me.
ReplyDeleteAs far as the idea of carpe diem I some times think people focus too much on trying to seize the day and make memories. I think its better to just live each day to the fullest, and let the memories make themselves.
To be quick honest, I have not thought about it at all. I have been so busy lately that seizing the day is just not an option right now. I guess I am seizing the day by keeping busy and not just sitting there, but at the same time I haven't taken time to enjoy it yet. Busy Busy Busy

I have to go study for this test!

Um, this chapter was okay. I kind of think that some of these poems and stories are pointless, because I will never use them again in my life-time most likely. The poems and stories we read weren't that bad. Some of them were interesting once they were explained to me but other than that I probably would never read any of these stories or poems if I wasn't in this class. I am definately not excited for the test, but of course who ever is. Some of these poems did make me think about how you really should live your life to the fullest because you can't go back and change what happens. Luke, I totally agree with you about letting memories make themselves! =)
ReplyDelete*quite...that is what Dani meant to say =)
ReplyDeleteI agree with Luke on his last comment. I kind of got sick of hearing how the people were trying to have sex just because they thought they were running out of time in their lives. I think that people should just go with the flow with their lives and not try to fit everything in.
ReplyDeleteBut I also liked the poems that delt with the bible..I thought they can relate to our lives very well.
There was ups and downs about this unit that i liked and didn't like. I liked some of the readings that talked about life and how time does go by, but on the other hand i didm't like how a lot of the readings were about how you should "get it on" because times a wasting. I really liked reading Femal Orations! It was by far the best thing that was in this Unit. I still strongly dislike Bacon!
ReplyDeleteI did stop and reflect about what was going on in the stories that we read. I did not reflect though. Life passes by it is pointless to dwell on total reflection and just live.
ReplyDeleteOverall I liked this unit, but I was sick of hearing how all the guys just wanted to do it, and that was their way of "seizing the day". I thought that was kind of disgusting. I think that going with the flow is the best way to deal with it. Don't over think trying to make memories. Let it happen.

I have to be honest - apart from the bible passages I will probably never sit down and read any of those things for enjoyment. But lots of them were interesting. I liked Paradise Lost (once it was explained in class) because it was kind of a cool story. My favorite was Psalm 23. But I agree with everyone up there ^ that all the talk about gettin' it on was a bit extreme. You should be able to find much better ways to sieze the day.
ReplyDeleteLuke had a good idea. Let's just let memories happen on their own.
It is scary when you think about how fast life passes by. The Rubaiyat and all of the Bible readings made me think about time and that it flies by way too fast. The last couple of readings about woman and evil were my least favorite. They switched the feelings of the chapter and the meaning of life.
ReplyDeleteKnowing life flies by is not a new thing to me or probably to anybody. All those poets did is put it in fancy terms that sound good. It doesn't make me think any different about life just because I read the poems. I do however always end up wondering how those poets write so well. They are really talented and makes me want to be able to write like that...but I know it will never happen.
ReplyDeleteI thought the chapter was pretty neat. Life does fly by, and its neat how life can still be really related to the poems written by these authors so long ago. This chapter made life seem like a bigger picture to me. There are a lot of things to live for and be thankful for.
