"Nature seems to have implanted gratitude in all living creatures...It appears to me that culture, which brings luxury and selfishness with it, has a tendency rather to weaken than promote this affection." -Samuel Johnson
Most of us focus on what we need to do right now and what we want to have in the future, ignoring many of the blessings that we have already. Let's take a little time to focus on the good things in life. What are some things for which you are grateful?

I think I take for granted what my parents do for me. I tend to get caught up in only the "bad" things they seem to do, but in reality they really do let me do alot of things. And most of the time when they get mad or say no to something it is really for my own good. Im sure there are a lot of thing I do take for granted, but right now I feel like this is a really big one for me.
ReplyDeleteThat is very true that we don't embrace that blessings that we already have. One thing that I am grateful for is my family. I have a great support system at home that always encourages me to be the best that I can be and they love me and always will. Having four sisters is also pretty awesome. As we get older, we become better friends.
ReplyDeleteOther blessings that I am grateful for are my friends, my dog Sparticus, and even education. I know that kids, including myself, do not appreciate our education. With graduation coming so fast, I realize how much I enjoyed high school and that I am actually a little bit sad to be leaving.
I am extremely grateful to trees. Trees gives what we need in the environment to breath in good air. Trees also give me opportunities to put treestands on them so I can kill big bucks. Another thing that trees give me are a cornocopia of colors in the fall. Thank you trees!
ReplyDeleteOf course I am extremely gratelful for my two parents who gave me three brothers to spend time with. They also give me a lot of money to buy my necessities with. Sometimes I ignore my pets when they are wanting attention, so I end up felling bad about that. I always try to make it up to them though.
Many times throughout the day I find myself complaining about school, work, or life in general. I forget how lucky I am to have an education and the opportunities it brings. I forget how lucky I am to have a job and the blessings it provides. I forget the family who cares for me, the friends I have, and the community that supports me. Another blessing I often forget about is my health. The amount of functions needed to perform throughout the body each and every second is a miracle. I am extremely blessed =)
ReplyDeleteHm, well I am grateful for a lot of different things. I am grateful for my health and the health of my family members. I am also grateful for my education, even though sometimes it may seem like the worst thing ever to have to come to school everyday. I am grateful to have a wonderful family who loves me and who I love. I am grateful to have wonderful and trustworthy friends. I am grateful for a lot of things in life even though I may not always show it. I am also grateful for all the clothing, food, etc. I get from my parents. They care about me a lot and I am very grateful for that. =)
ReplyDeleteWow! I think about this quite often. I think that many people get caught up in worrying about thte future that there is almost no time to even think about the many things that we already have that others might not. I am very grateful for my family and the support system.I feel so blessed to live in a "healthy home" enviroment. Sometimes I take for granted that we all get along (most of the time(: ) I am also grateful for all the friends I have. I feel that as highschool is coming to an end you realize how attached you are to all these poeple you have known for the 13 of the 17 years you have been alive. I am grateful that we can just hang out and hang fun being silly. Also, I know this is dorky but whatever, so school. I am very grateful that I live in a place where I can get an educaiton. I know I spend more time complaining about school than being grateful for it. Thanks Mrs. Myers...this was refreshing.
ReplyDeleteThis is so ironic! This morning, I was in the car with Elizabeth and I was commenting on how pretty the green grass was and that the trees are finally starting to bloom! After I said this, we were commenting on how people don't even take time to notice these things because they are so caught up in what they have to do and where they have to go. Also, my mom is a constant reminder of how blessed we are to have a normal family. My mom grew up in a poor family, and my grandpa was a cranky alcoholic (he's not anymore. Life was really hard for her growing up. Now, as a kindergarten teacher in the poorer area of Menomonie, she tells us about all of the sad or horrible situations that some of her kindergarteners have gone through or are going through. After hearing stories like these, it really puts perspective on your own life. I'm so grateful for my family!
ReplyDeleteBeing grateful for many comes at the price of ignorance. As Samuel Johnson points out, many people neglect to recognize all of the blessings that we have received because we are spoiled and self conceeded. I am included in that I take my wonderful family for granted and forget how blessed I am to be a part in their lives.
ReplyDeleteMy biggest complaint is usually about school and homework. But I forget about the many things our school system offers such as a excellent free education, the students safety within the school, and the great people around me that devote their undivided attention to mine and other students needs.
Lastly, I am grateful for my health. No price high enough could I trade that wouldn't garentee me a healthy bodily system.
Im grateful for family and friends. WIthout them i would prett much be nothing. I'm also grateful for food and water because without them i would not exist.
ReplyDeleteI'm grateful for sports to keep me busy and work to give me money.
I am grateful for my health because i do not get sick very often.
Im grateful for cell phones because they let me keep in touch with everyone.
Im grateful for lots more things to, but can't think at the moment.
But one thing i am grateful is LIFE!
I am grateful for life. We all came into life not knowing anything, but as we grow up, we learn to be humans. Life allows us to determine who we are and what we want to become. We come to school to learn to survive in the real world with everybody else.
ReplyDeleteI am also grateful for the people that want to be in my life and help out. The people that want to listen to me and give me support are the ones that I appreciate. In general, life is the most important thing that all of us should be grateful for.
This is a perfect question Mrs. Meyers. Yesterday, after practice I spent two + hours in the woods. At first, like I had planned, I was setting up an area for next fall's tree stand. I cut out brush and made shooting lanes for my bow and arrow. (It's a perfect spot and I'll probably shoot a big buck). This in and of itself is a task in which i thouroughly enjoy using my intuitive conceptual abilities. However, the real beauty, and what gave me a deep feeling of gratitude toward life, was what I saw when I was finnished. (In case you didn't notice, the sunset on Wednesday, April 7 was beautiful). My little area and I were at a location where the edge of the woods faces northwest along a swamp, with another woods across the swamp. The woods across the swamp then turns into a field, making the rest of the woods going west about half as wide. (I call it the narrow woods). The place where the "fat" woods turn partially into a field is not too far west from my stand area. I had cut out the brush that grows on the edge of the woods, with my tree being just inside the woods. I could now see the entire picture: the swamp, the woods I was in, and the woods changing to a field across the swamp. As the sun was going down, in a matter of seconds, the entire lighting of the world around me was transformed because the sun ventured far enough north to evade the "narrow" woods (which lied to my west) and came into the field. I was left in the shadow of the woods I was in, which gave it an even better effect as the entire field to my northwest and the swamp was lit up. It was the brightest-seeming light I have ever experienced at sunset (probably cuz I was in the darkness of the woods). Besides the illuminescent swamp and field, the entire sky above me was lit up because of the effect of the rainclouds from earlier that day, being directly above me, catching the light of the setting sun and creating the biggest and close to the most beautiful sunset I have ever experienced. The upper buds and small leaves on the cherry and maple trees also shown with a stunning brilliance. It was miraculous and bright as I was, at that point, watching in awe from my dark little corner. Then to cap off the beauty of the shadows of the woods and the brightly lit field and swamp, two sets of mallards flew up out of the swamp and circle above, near but not directly in the light of the clouds, as if themselves dancing to the beauty of nature. While the mallards were getting ready to land again, a single male pheasant flew straight up the swamp. Both sets of birds were seen by me with such clarity because of their position in the sun, that I couldn't believe it.
ReplyDeleteAs I sat there watching for at least fifteen minutes, I felt probably more graditude toward my life than I have ever experience. That was what Samuel Johnson was talking about.
I often forget about how beautiful all the land and nature is around me. Wisconsin hills are beautifully filled with forests or fields. Once you get over one hill there's a whole view of more rolling hills. It would be horrible if deforestation contiued until there was nothing left. Tere is so much wildlife living in the forests and it would be ashamed if they were all killed and people couldn't enjoy identifying different birds and animals.
ReplyDeleteI'm very grateful for my family! They are very supportive of me and everything that I do. It's nice to know that I will always have somebody there for me to cheer me on. My family is my support system and my number one fans. I think that sometimes I take this for granted. It's crazy how much my family will do for me even if it isn't convenient for them. The thing about family is that they are forever. My cousins are some of my best friends. We have always been close and as we get older, our bond is only growing. I hope that they are forever in my life the way that they are now.
