CPR

All of you will be taking (or have taken) CPR/First Aid. Most other schools in the area do not require seniors to take CPR, but at Colfax it's actually a requirement for graduation. What do you think about that? Discuss!

  1. I think that it is a good thing. Even if we do not go into a medical field, we should all know a little something. It could save somebody's life from a car accident or even just eating something at home. The CPR people are nice enough to come to Colfax and help us learn, so we should be thankful for that. There are actually people that want to better our futures.

  2. I think it's an excellent idea. Most other schools require you to do so many community servcie hours before you can graduate, but most of the students at Colfax already participate in the community service so I think CPR is an awesome idea. The only thing that bothers me about it is we have to miss class, but I don't know when else we would be able to do it. I think it's valuable for everyone to know how to do CPR for when you babysitting, have children, or any where in public where something can happen. I know for babysitting they already take you through it, but I think we could all use a refresher because that was a long time ago!

  3. Having a CPR class at Colfax is very realistic and practical. Many people want to take the class, but don't find the time to become certified. We are very lucky Colfax offers and requires a CPR class for its seniors. Now is the time to become certified. We all are going off to school or the workforce next fall and never know when we will need to perform such procedures. I appreciate Colfax's drive to push safety first and think everyone should appreciate the course as well.

  4. Having a CPR section is a really good quality that we as students can obtain. I already took one of the weekend classes and I thought for it was a very good class for everyone to take espically since saving a life is about the most honorable achievement possible. When we go off to school, you never know when someone will need it. Whether it's your buddy at the mall or someone you don't know, all lives are just as important as others

  5. I think that it is good that we require it for graduation! CPR is a good thing for anyone to know how to do because you never know when you may need to use it. I think that every school needs to make CPR a requirement ebcause anyone going into the world should know how to use it. If everyone knew what to do there would probably be a lot less people dying do to the ambulance not getting there in time to do CPR!

  6. I think CPR is a great idea as a requirement for graduation. I think that it is a good thing to know. I actually think that more schools should at least offer it if not require it. I don't have to take the course today because I took it earlier in the year, but I m glad taht i was able to take. You never know when it may be needed. I am grateful that it is avaliable here at the awesome Colfax High!

  7. I think that it is a really good idea. I like the fact that CPR is a requirement for graduation. I believe that CPR is a really important thing for everyone to know how to do. I feel like a better citizen knowing how to do CPR. Just thinking about maybe even one day saving someone's life is just incredible to me. I hope someday that every school requires their students to take CPR to graduate because it is a very useful thing to know how to do. I totally agree with Heather too.

  8. I like having this as a requirement at Colfax. I like it because it may acctually come in handy one day. If a lot of schools do not require it, I do think that they should offer it. You could use it to save a life one day!

  9. I think that CPR as a requirement for graduation is a great idea. I don't think that many high school students would go out and take CPR classes on their own, so making it a requirement is good. It is important to know how to react in difficult situations. I am taking CPR on the 16th with a couple of other students.

  10. Same as everyone else, I like the idea of requiring CPR. I think it is very important that everyone knows about it because, well, you could seriously save someone's life! More schools should require it. It's important to know what to do in that type of situation and there's probably lots of people out there who don't know anything about CPR. I'm not taking it today, I'm going next weekend with a few other students, like Rachael.

  11. I like that we have to learn CPR because I believe that it is something that every person should know how to do. In my opinion, every school should require that students take CPR so that more of the population knows how to perform it. However, many students don't reach graduation, so it might be a good idea to have it as a freshman and then again as a senior.
I took CPR classes and was certifies at Camp Ready after my freshman year, but I definitely feel a lot more confident after having the second course.

  12. I think the idea is a good thing, but I don't really think I would be comfortable if I actually had to save somebody. The "teachers" I had didn't really get in anything too advanced. We just skimmed the basics. It felt like we were doing nothing the whole time and the instructor guy had a talent of talking slowly and without really saying anything. The dvd wouldn't work wich set us back, and we had to cover the heimliec manuever in about five minutes at the end. I want to take a better class I think.

  13. CPR is a great thing to know and understand. The world is so unpredictable and anyone, at any time, can be in a situation where CPR is needed. I cannot imagine what it would be like if someone saw a person in Cardiac Arrest and on the verge of dying, and not being able to help them. It is one thing when a person tries to save another, but when they just stand not helping anything, it is really sad.

  14. I think it might be taken a little too far for CPR to be a requirement to graduate. It should definetly be offered to students because CPR is a great skill to have in life. However, graduating shouldn't be based on obtaining a skill such as CPR.

  15. In my opinion I think it is pretty good. We did get out of half a day of school! No, but really I think it is really important to know how to give CPR because you never know when you will need to use it!
