Using the senses (taste, touch, see, hear, smell), describe sitting at the tables in the school cafeteria on a day when the cooks are serving your most/least favorite meal.
Well, I don't eat lunch in the cafeteria, but just sitting in the hallway and smelling what's for lunch makes me want to throw up. ): That's why I don't eat lunch at school.
Well, I do not eat school lunches, but my absolute least favorite is the biscuits with that gravy goulash that looks similar to snot. I just hate how it looks. So, here goes. I'm sitting at a puck green table that is surrounded by orange chairs. My friends plunk their trays down with snot gravy dripping all over the place because the cooks never put in just ON the biscuits. I smell a lot of things. Some of them are good, but most of them are bad because mostly I smell the snot gravy. I hear everybody talking at once, about things such as homework, how tired they are, how sucky/awesome the lunch is, etc etc. I also hear that one table that claps everyday clap. Then I see people rolling their eyes at the clapping people. Then I finish my lunch, which is probably better than the snot gravy, and leave to go sit in the hallway. The end.
It is third hour and I can already sense the drifting aromas of the school lunch. Some are haunting and some are luring. I feel my way through each of my next classes and am effected by the flavors of lunch. Today I brought my own lunch, just like every other day. All of the smells blend together into one pile of tasteless fuel that will always reconnect me to my days in school. Woah! Today is egg salad day! Yes! There is no way that one can smell the pungent smell of egg salad until one has the glorious sandwich in hand. I love egg salad. And egg salad loves me. I cannot wait for the next time I have one in hand, holding the soft bread against my palms. I love egg salad. I think I’ll take three.
I walk to my fifth hour class and I can already smell the wonderful scents of the mac and cheese being prepared. My stomach rumbles all through my next class as I wait patiently to for the bell to ring. I get out of class and rush down to the cafeteria and take a generous helping of that yellow, cheesy goodness. I work my way through the maze of tables and sit down. Then I slowly lift a forkful of that wonderful noodley creation towards me and take a bite and let a little smile sneak out.
By second hour my stomach is throwing a fit, growling, grumbling, and begging for food. I gladly obliged by eating a mid-morning snack. By lunch my stomach is once again complaining. An aroma of cinnamon wafts into the air as I open my lunch box. I stir some of it into my apple sauce. I also eagerly dig into leftovers of last nights supper. Lunch is my favorite time of day!
I have to admit it: our school has some of the worst lunches at times. I could always bring my own lunch now that I have a general idea of what’s good and bad when it comes to the school lunches at Colfax. The sad thing, however, is that I totally don’t have time to make one in the morning as I like to get in as much sleep as I possibly can before having to get ready. So I cope … for the most part.
On the days when I am extremely hungry, lunch always seems to end up as a disappointment. The days when I am so hungry usually end up being the day those bubbly lunch ladies serve us Salisbury steak. In my opinion, that is probably one of the worst lunches in our school (no disrespect to the lunch ladies). There is something about it that makes me want to throw up. It may be the nasty color or smell or taste that makes me nauseous, but it definitely is not something that I’m going to eat willingly.
Luckily my friends think the same thing about this meal. We all tend to avoid the steak, which is easily done as we’re complaining about the random freshmen who continue to take our puke green table. Will they ever learn? No matter. With the main course of our lunch being left for the garbage to indulge after we’re done sitting at the table, all we have left to eat is a cookie (that itself isn’t that appetizing as they are usually hard and tasteless) and a huge pile of mashed potatoes with some gravy trickled on top.
We aren’t in the lunch room for much longer, though. Scarfing down the pile of mashed potatoes, we make a dash to dump the remains on our trays and get away from the noisy lunch room quickly. It is also our goal to get as far away as we can from the table that has the clapping boys. After putting up with that for most of the year, it is really annoying now. Quick pit stops to our lockers are made before we head outside to get some fresh air. As we turn the corner by the office, we hear the table full of boys clap away. We just roll our eyes and keep on walking.
Well, I actually don't get to school until after lunch. But I certainly remember the disgusting smell of stirfry. I personally think that's the worst lunch. I actually never had it before, but the smell makes me want to vomit. Therefore, I don't eat it. It smells like rotten food all mixed together and put on top of some rice. I remember the last three years, walking through the hallway, and it was end of 4th hour or beginning of 5th hour where you could really start smelling it. Right away I knew it was stirfry, with it's disgusting, distinct smell. It's actually not just the schools stirfry either. When my mom makes it at home, it makes me want to vomit too. There's something about that smell. ew.
The lunchroom is always loud, with people talking to eachother and the eveyday occurrence of a certain table that likes to clap. Circular tables dot the room, with colors that have always reminded me of the seventies. I now bring my own lunch, but the worst day was always pizza dipper day. Most people enjoy the greasy, flavorless sticks of bread with cheese in the middle, but I cannot stand them. The marinara sauce is even worse. It tastes like it has been watered down to the point where you can barely tell that it's marinara sauce.
I can hear the excitment of the students lining up for hot dogs with macaroni and cheese with an ice cream treat for dessert. You can hear the sound of trays being pick up and set onto tables. You have to be quick or you will find that the line stretches far down the hall. You see some students with mounds of macaroni on their plates. The smell is absolutely delicious, and makes you more and more anxious to be served. You finally get to you table. You sit down on the wonderful orange chairs and grip you fork ready to dig in. The taste is everything you had dreamed it to be, and you slowly enter a state of mind where you just eat, not talking, not thinking, just eating
As I walk towards the lunch line after my fifth hour class, I catch the smell of sausage pizza going through my nose. I hurry to the line to see that it is empty. I see the cooks cutting up the pizza equally as I quickly move my way toward them. I grab my trey with my lunch and head over to my table. As I enjoy eating while its quiet, I all the sudden hear a rore from every direction. By now everyone has been let out for lunch and all you can hear is screaming. But that does not stop being from enjoying that first bite from the delicious piece of pizza I have.
I would have to agree with Catlin. I'm not a big fan of the school lunches. When I used to eat lunches, pizza dippers were the best food I think. It was either that or when we had the apple crisp with the BBQs. I really has liked the apple crisp. I would always try to get at least two pieces. I didn't really listen to what was all happening in the cafeteria.
My least favorite lunch is pizza dippers. It smells like pizza, which isn't too horrible. If you squeeze the pizza dippers, greese will pour out of them. Its is so disgusting! I hate that lunch mostly because the pizza dippers are so greasy and unhealthy, but also becuase the dipping sauce tastes ike they added water to it. In other words it is completely tasteless! Though to me it is absolutely nausiatingly gross, the rest of the school is in love with them! I just don't get it! So I taste gross greasy food. I see a bunch of kids paying for seconds. I smell cheesy pizza. I hear laughter mostly becuase I hear laughter every day. I feel nasty grease pizza dippers!!! YUCK!
My least favorite lunch is the hot ham and cheese sandwich. We never get served enough food so afterwards I am still hungry. I stand in line listening to people complain about how little of food there is to eat.I smell the warm cheese draped over the ham. I grab my tray and set it down on the metal slidey thing and hear it clang. People in front of me are scooping up pineapple and coleslaw while hitting the metal spoon against their trays making a dull thump. I look up at the lunchroom and see people smiling and frowning. Then I hear a huge uproar of laughter. When I sit down at my table, I can hear my friends talk about their days and the homework they have to get done. The table that claps everyday does their obnoxious clapping and people groan and roll their eyes. Once i finish eating, I take my tray to the garbage and go to the gym.
I'm the type of person who snacks ALL day, instead of eating three big meals. So lunch is usually just socializing with friends. Sometimes I buy school lunch if I forgot to pack snacks, and other times I tell my friends to grab me a sandwich. School's meat freaks me out, seriously. When it's taco salad day, all i smell is the nasty, salty alien-food. When it's chicken nugget day, I try not to look at my food when I bite into it because the meat looks so disturbing. When it's pizza dipper day , I hope to get a good batch of pizza dippers. Usually the bread is soggy and the cheese is plasticky and watery - not tasty at all. But I love how the school's jell-o jiggles. Even the word sounds awesome.
