How is your Shakespeare persuasive essay coming? What issues are you running up against? Have you decided yet who the "real" Shakespeare was? Discuss!

(P.S. The rough draft is due on Monday; final draft with cover page and MLA works cited page is due on Tuesday. Please submit on Edmodo.)

  1. The persuasive essay is okay, I haven't run into any problems really. I picked the real Shakespeare to be Shakespeare. I feel like I have found more information on why other people are him so if anyone has found a good site about why Shakespeare was the true writer could you tell me? :)

  2. I am pretty much done with my essay, and it wasn't too hard to write. I had a little trouble organizing it, but it turned out okay (I hope). I picked Shakespeare to be Shakespeare too. A really good site is the Shakespeare Authorship Page. It has a ton of stuff. So anyway. The end.

  3. My persuasive essay is making me irritated. I’m having trouble writing it because I can't get interested in Shakespeare and I really don’t care who Shakespeare was and who he wasn't. So it's hard for me to persuade someone. You know what I mean? But it's coming along. I wrote two pages last night, hopefully they make sense. I picked the real Shakespeare to be Shakespeare, but like Sierra said, I too am finding a lot more information on other people being him. I am wondering if I should have chosen another person. Oh well. I am having a little trouble organizing it and trying to find information on how he was the real Shakespeare and then trying to find information why he wasn't the real Shakespeare for my counterargument. It's difficult. I also feel like I am writing a research paper because I don't know anything about Shakespeare so I have to research it and write what they say (not plagiarizing of course :). So it doesn't even feel like a persuasive essay and then I feel like I am doing it all wrong.

  4. Like Christina, the persuasive essay is irritating. I don't really have any interest in Shakespeare and if he was real or not. Finding all of the information and putting it in my words and making it sound good seems to be a little complicated just because I don't really know what I'm writing about. Don't worry though, I'll try my hardest! :) Also, for some reason I thought the rough draft was due on wednesday and the final due on friday. Guess not, or was it changed? Oh well, that's all.

  5. I Agree with the previous posts. Usually we get to choose our own topic and that makes it much much easier to write. I am really looking forward to when my paper is done! :) It isn't that bad though because it is only 3-5 pages...it could be worse! yikes. I am having a hard time just finding exactly what I want to say within those limits because there is sooo much information out there that it is hard to channel it all in in the right order. It is also a little blah because in order to write a good essay on Shakespeare, we have to READ about him...haha..like i said though, it could be worse!

  6. I am not liking this paper at all. I also like it when we can choose what we talk about. This is one of those subjects that I really don't have any interest in so that makes this one of those papers that I don't like. Oh well though. But I haven't found much to help me decide whoto pic which is making this really difficult. I agree with Erinn. It might be hard to fit everything into this paper. Theres a ton of information out there. But even with all this info, it is hard to figure who to pick which is really frustrating. I feel like I'm reading all this information, but getting no where.

  7. I haven't really started the essay yet, but I do have some resources and some info to put in it. I kind of think Shakespeare is Shakespeare in some aspects, but I think there maybe were a couple of other guys working behind the lines, and writing and publishing things in Shakespeares name. I'm not sure my info is actually good or not but I'm using it anyway.

  8. I don't mind this paper. From what I've researched so for I have found some pretty interesting stuff. I'm more confused with Shakespeare as a person and what he was thinking when he was alive. If he would have wrote in his will something about his plays and sonnets he could have easily avoided any controversy now. In my opinion I think Shakespeare wrote Shakespeare but I do have some doubts.

  9. My persuasive paper is coming along alright, I guess. I’ve come to the conclusion that Shakespeare really is Shakespeare. I have quite a bit of information to support what I think, so that’ll just be so much fun to organize once I’m done blogging. I sort of have a general idea on how I want to organize by paper, so hopefully all of the information I have will just fall into place.

Question: Is the final draft due on Tuesday or Wednesday? You said Tuesday up above and Edmodo says Wednesday. I’ll most likely Edmodo my paper on Tuesday, but I just want to be sure. =)

  10. This essay has braught some stress to me. I do not mind the topic, but like Christina said, I feel like I know nothing about it. SO how could anything besides the facts I read really go into this persuasive essay? I think I will get through it just fine, but there are just a few things that are making it irritating and harder to write.

  11. This is a really strange topic. I have heard some debates on big subjects, but I think this is sort of ridiculous. Why is there so much debate on if Shakespeare actually did write all his works. What would it accomplish finding out that someone else wrote them. We would have to eliminate his name from the entire world. Is that even possible? I agree with picking our own topics, because that gives us a little bit more to work with, than choosing between an obvious and famous choice, or someone we have never heard of.

  12. I wish I would have more time to fully research this paper. There is a lot of information out there, and I feel like my paper doesn't even touch the surface of the controversy. I get a little frustrated by this paper, mostly because people just can't let it go that Shakespeare wasn't educated at a university. If they had some other giant reason for believing Shakespeare wasn't actually Shakespeare I might be a little more interested.

  15. Sorry for the delayed response. I'm getting caught up this morning on Blogspot, and hopefully staying caught up for the rest of this week.

Anyway, the only problem I had with the essay was getting it done during my busy weekend. After hours of finding information, I spent hours trying to translate and type my essay.

After that was done, the next issue that came up was MLA format. I had questions about the proper citing if there was two authors, no authors...etc. I was scared when I found out you were gone on the day the paper was due...but thank goodness Mrs. Gibson could help.
