If you could fix one problem in the world, what problem would you fix and why? For example, I would get rid of apathy. If people weren't so apathetic, I think that all of the world's problems would go away. Think about it: everyone would care about what was going on around them and what was happening to others. Additionally, not only would people care, they would get involved and fix the problem instead of saying, "Oh, someone else will take care of that" or "That doesn't involve me" or "That's too big of an issue to tackle." There would be actual concern and actual problem-solving on the part of everyone.

So, what social ill would you clear up?

  1. I would end the way people negatively judge others. This often leads to people thinking negatively of themselves. If nobody took the time to judge others, people would have more confidence and could perhaps do more to benefit others. Nobody would hate anyone else for stupid, illegitamate things, and nobody would try to change themselves as a result of being judged.

  2. Aaah. this is too difficult of a subject to tackle. I feel like if I got rid of a social ill, the universe would be thrown off balance or something. I don't know. If I had to pick one to lessen, I would have to say dishonesty. It causes at lot of problems even if people don't realize they are being lied to. I really don't know though.

  3. I have to agree with sarah I would get rid of how people judge others. Right away people judge other people by their appearances or by how they dress or talk, when in actuality this person could be amazingly smart, or funny. By judging this person right away they are imediately rejected. It is just a sad thing. People go about changing, and hurting themselves becuase they aren't socially accepted. They change who they are just to meet others qualifications. Without judgment everyone could get along.

  4. I agree with Christina. I think abortion should be illegal. If you can't deal with a baby at a young age, you shouldn't be thinking about or having sex. Abortion is a horrible thing and I wish it was never discovered or invented, whatever happened. It isn't the child's fault that their mother made the decision to have sex and risk their bodies, not to mention the fact that with all of the sexually transmitted diseases in the world, the mother could transmit any diseases she has to the baby. Sex wasn't intentionally meant just for pleasure, it was meant for reproducing and should only be shared between two people that love each other.

  5. I would get rid of all the worlds problems that cause problems to this planet. All the destroying of forests and factory polution would not exist. This would be a perfect senario, however it is pretty hypothetical. We rely on so much that hurts this planet that if we got rid of all of it, we would have very much difficulty trying to survive. I hope that someday we can come to realize how much this planet is going through, and hopefully we can give it a break and cut down on some of the unimportant things we think we need to survive.

  6. I would say get along with people so that we never have wars again. So many families are torn apart because of fighting. If we had no fighting, there would be a lot less conflict in the world. Families would stay together, people would get along and help those in need. If there was a national disaster, countries would come together to help because they were actually friends and not enemies. I know this literally is impossible, but it would be a really good thing to fix in this world.

  7. Like Ben, I would try to end the things that hurt the earth. Getting rid of pollution, stopping the cutting down of forests, and other harmful things would be taken care of. We hurt the planet in many ways and hopefully one of these days we'll come to our senses and think of ways to take care of it.

  8. yes yes.. this is like the "if you could have a super-power, what would you have" type of question! I allllways say "I would have the power to have any power that I want!"...so the same thing sort of goes for this whole "rid of social ill" thing :) I want the power to get rid of anything that is ailing the world at that given time! yeah! that would be awesome! :)

  9. I would end all the poverty in the world. No matter where we go in the world today, poverty is all around us. I’ve read in an article that there are nearly a billion people who can’t read or even write their own names. A lot of these people live in extremely poor conditions. Some don’t have a roof over their heads, safe water to drink or food to eat, or access to health services that could save their lives. It just shows how blessed we really are, and we shouldn’t feel obligated to help those who are in need. Everyone, honestly, is struggling in some way at the present time because of our decreasing economy. If we truly want to change that, one of the many things that should be done is to help others so they can have a decent education, be able to live healthy lives, etc. Everyone has a huge role to play when it comes to our future.

  10. If I could end any "social ill" I would end procrastination. Procrastination is an infection disease that I know has infected not only myself but many other fellow seniors this year. Procrastination, just like senioritis, cannot be cured in one night and is the root of all the evil, evil being my bad grades. I am a lot smarter than my grades reflect, but, unfortunetly, my motivation is not exaclty to do my homework every night and this is where my procrastination comes from. If procrastination didn't exist everything in this world would be dealt with right away essentially make the world and easier and more enjoyable place to live.

  11. There are so many problems out there, but one thing that would be a huge help would be to get everybody to get along. Sure we don't all believe the same things or think the same way, but that doesn't mean we have to go to war over it. I would be so nice if people could just get along so we didn't have to worry about war are murder or any of the other things like that happen all to often. If things like that didn't happen, the world would a lot better of a place.

  12. I would get rid of dishonesty. I think a lot of people that rise to world powers get there by cheating their way to the top.

Another social ill I would get rid of would be negativity. Things would go a lot smoother if people weren't always trying to drag everybody down.

  13. If I could end anything in the world it would be how people are lazy. This world would be so better off if people just gave more effort towards things. Took more situations in life serious and do them right instead of half way. This is not the only thing I would change cause my list goes on and on, but this is one of a those things that really bothers me as a person. I also did not want to repeat what anyone else said so I went with this one. People could be so much more successful in life if they just gave it a little more heart and effort.

  14. Lying/cheating. If people didn't lie or hide things, there would be no drama. No one would have to remember what they said if they actually told the truth. No feelings would be hurt.

If everyone were open with their feelings, so much would be different - for the better.
