9-13

Since two of our group have decided to abandon us for the sunny climes of California, I decided that today's journal entry should be about vacations. What was the best (or worst) vacation you have ever had? Where did you go? Who was with you? What made the vacation so memorable? Discuss!

  1. My parents and I drove west for several days. We saw the usual family vacation- type western landmarks. One of my favorites, however, was the Badlands. Driving and walking through that terrain was unlike anything I'd ever seen. Some of the rock structures were really unbelievable. We also saw a bunch of baby rattle snakes sunning themselves. The mother was nowhere to be found, though, which was a little discomforting.

  2. My most memorable vacation was when I went to Washington to see me grandparents. My brother, mom, and I went on a train to go see them, which was a whole memory in itself. The thing that makes it the most memorable, was that I was able to see my step-grandfather. He was a very likable person who was quiet, hard working, and could make a quiet joke that everyone would laugh at. I remember him the most, because after that trip, I will never be able to see him again.

  3. My most memorable vacation was to Ireland 3 months ago. My mom, her friend Sheila, Vicki, and myself left out of Minneapolis and flew to Newark, NJ. After the layover in Newark, we flew over the ocean to Dublin, Ireland. The climate there is very cold compared to here. It never gets into the 70's. Their mountians would be considered our high hills. My favorite part was the Blarney Castle. Some of you may know about kissing the Blarney stone, which is supposed to bring you good luck or the gift of gab. The stone is way at the top of the castle and you have to hang off the edge of the castle upside down and kiss the side of the wall. I did it and it was a great feeling!! Now I'm looking forward to Hawaii in January.

  4. One time I took a long journey that lasted many days and nights. It was a dangerous one, but for many reasons, it was memorable. Conquering many demons and ferocious beasts along the way, I managed to reach my destination in time to save the world and all of humanity. You're welcome.

  5. My most memorable vacation was the cruse my family took for my aunts wedding. We left Florida and went to the Bahamas. On the ship there was food/ice cream you could eat when ever you wanted, for free! I was only ten so the ice cream was where i was half the time on the ship. The most amazing part of it was there was a water slide right on the ship. When we reached the Bahamas my sister and I got our hair braided. The Bahamas were fun to experience especially riding with taxi drivers. I have had some pretty memorable trip, but I go to Europe in June and I think that will be my most memorable.

  6. My most memorable vactaion was about five years ago when my whole family of five packed up our bags and went to South Dakota! Being jammed either against the window or stuck in the middle of the old Buick was a heck of a bonding experience for my brothers and I. I remember stopping to see the corn palace in Mitchell, SD. It was kinda a corny place but has stuck in mind. When we arrived to the cabin that we would be staying at for two weeks, it started to hail, very badly. It hailed so much that it covered the ground. The green grass now looked like it was caught up in a Wisconsin early winter. It was strange. The best part of the vactaion was exploring the beautiful state. South Dakota has a lot to offer. The Badlands, Indian memorial sites, lots of buffalo, and you can see the land stretch out miles before you. The best part about South Dakota though is Mount Rushmore of course. We went there on the their busiest day; Fourth of July. It was jammed packed with people and we knew why. Why? Because Mount Rushmore has the longest and most amazing firework display during that holiday. There was music and jets flying around. It was spectacular. It was the best vacation I ever had with anyone. I was glad to have such a nice experience with my favorite people in the world! :)

  7. I think I would have to say my best vacation was last summer. My family went to Yellowstone National Park. We went through North Dakota, Montana, and Wyoming. It was a lot of nature and it was a lot of fun. We got to see a lot of wild animals, some were close enough to touch, it was amazing. It was really cold or really hot, there was no happy medium. I got really sunburnt. We were 11,000 feet above sea level so everytime we drove somewhere our ears would pop because the elevation changes so much. Overall it was a fun vacation, it was defiantely my favorite family vacation.

  8. My best and worst vacation was a trip that I took out to Colorado in 2002. We took two weeks, and visited Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, and the badlands on the way out there. In Colorado, we went to the mountains, and drove up Pikes Peak. (14,000 feet). We were in the clouds up there. We camped at the highest KOA in the world as well. that was not very much fun though, because our furnace wouldnt work, it took forever to boil water, and I had a really bad bike crash. We left there early. On the way home, we swam at a really warm pool in Sterling, CO, and found an amazing state park in Nebraska. It was a very memorable trip overall.

  9. My favorite vacation was our family trip to Chicago. It was quite a culture shock from little Colfax. We saw so many different people and way more diversity then here in Colfax. We went to Navy Pier and on a boat tour with fantastic views of the skyline. We went alllll the way to the top of the Sears Tower. That was very exciting. They have little glass boxes that are see through all the way around that people can go stand in. It feels like youre floating. We saw some really cool street performers painted entirely in silver paint. You don't get much of that in Dunn County! I saw alot of art and culture and people. I would defenitly go back if I had the chance.

  10. My most memorable vacation was last summer when I went to Europe for 1 1/2 months with my sister has Ambassadors of Music for the state of Wisconsin. I learned so much and got to see a lot of Europe. We flew into London and we spent 3 days there, I was fortunate enough to go to the Globe Theater and watch Henry 8th. It was really hard to follow, but so much fun. We then crossed the channel and went to Paris. My most memorable event in Paris was climbing the Eifel tower in a thunderstorm! Switzerland was my favorite county over all. Our hotel was half way up a mountain and it had the most breath taking view I have ever seen. Oh, and I can’t forget about the Swiss chocolate yummy! Next was Austria and Germany were I got to go to a concentration camp and see the World’s largest Christmas store. I got to go Venice Italy for only one day, and it was so amazing how the city is islands and there are no cars, just bridges. Europe made me realize all the different cultures are out there in the world, and I really hope I can go back someday!

My favorite vacation by far is when i went to the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. It was so awesome. I was there for four months because I was in the foreign exchange program there. I leardned how to speak Australian and made tons of new friends. I also got to scuba dive all the time and ride sharks. I only got bit one time by a shark, but the hospitals are very good in Australia so I don't even have a scar. I heard that there are deadly ants in Australia that can jump and bite you, but I never saw any of those. That's the best vacation I've ever had.

  12. Okay, i first want to note how unbelievably false Hayden's post is. It gave me a good laugh. Anyways, my first real vacation is actually this one. Before my vacation here i had never really left Wisconsin and Minnesota. After experiencing a new state and a new atmosphere, i have decided that i love traveling. Well, besides the taking off and landing on a plane... i don't like that so much. In fact, i actually was freaking out Saturday on both of our planes. Other than that, our vacation has been extraordinary. I love the sunny weather, Pacific Ocean, hot guys ;), and just all the liveliness out here. I can't wait for the rest of our trip! Oh, and sorry for "leaving you guys" ;)

  13. My best vacations have always been at Cornucopia, Wisconsin. It is this little town right on Lake Superior. Our friends have a boat at the marina there so we started camping there too. It is one of the most beautiful places! There is "singing sand" that makes noise when you walk through it and there are sea caves that you can go kayaking in. I have met alot of great people there and have always had so much fun.

  14. The best vaction I ever had was when I went on vacation with Hayden to Australia. Australian people are great. One lady named latoopie made me a quilt with the dragon path on it. Her and Hayden dated for three months, but then she died because she was bitten by a deadly ant. It was a sad day, but besides that the vacation was great!

  15. My most memorable vacation I would have to say was when my mom took my brothers and I to Chicago and Milwaukee for a week last summer. We went to the Sears Tower in Chicago which was really cool to look to look out from. I remember seeing this one building that was in the shape of a triangle. It must have been a prison because there were a bunch of, what looked like prisoners, wearing orange jump suits playing basketball and lifting weights. We stayed in this sweet hotel too with a cool view of the city. In Milwaukee we went to the Milwaukee Zoo which was awesome because I love zoos! That was a good week.

  16. Well my best vacation would have to be when I went to Florida in sixth grade! Yup that was the best one. Oh wait, I am not in this class anymore! Thought I'd say hello though Mrs. Myers. I hope all is well!

  17. I like that this post is about us. haha. My favorite vacation is by far this one that I'm on now. It is the farthest away from I have ever been. It's the first time I have ever seen the ocean and the best part is I got to go with my best friends. I wouldn't take back anything from this vacation and I know it will be hard for future vacations to compare to my Cali trip. I know this trip will be super memorable because of the places we have went . For instance going to San Diego, swimming in the Pacific Ocean, and going to Sea World is enough alone to make this trip super memorable. Not only that but going to LA later in the week will make it even more better.
