We are going to start reading Beowulf today. Since Beowulf is the story about a great hero, let's talk about your heroes. Who are your heroes? Why? What attributes makes someone heroic? Why do you think that cultures/countries need heroes?
I don't really have a hero, but I there are several people I expecally look up to. My Grandpa and Grandpa L are two of them, because back when my Dad was growing up, my grandpa got drafted into the war. My grandma was a stay at home mom, so they didn't have any financial support the entire time he was gone. I look up to especially my grandma because she was really strong, and kept her family safe during that time.
ReplyDeleteI think everyone sees heroes in diffferent ways, the attributes I think a hero should have is someone who does something that makes a difference in some ones live. They don't necessary have to take a bullet for someone, but just being caring and doing the right thing makes them a hero.
One of my heroes is Coco Chanel. She was raised in an orphanage and became one of the most successful women of the day. Despite coming from society's lowest class, she never let her confidence falter, at least publicly. Not only was she accepted into the highest social and wealth circles, she dominated them. Her natural tendendcy was to be BOLDLY individual, and I think that's something we could use more of today.
ReplyDeleteI don't really have any specific heros, but there are people that have done heroic things in my life. Since it is almost the 9-11 anniversary, i think the people that sacrificed themselves so that the plane went in a field rather than the white house are heros. So were all the firefighters and police who worked for days straight in the wreckage. Heros are people who make a big difference in someone else's life.
ReplyDeleteIt may sound corny, but I am proud of saying that my mom is my hero. The reason I look up to my mom is because she has been through so much and yet she remains so strong. She had a stroke many years back and it took a lot from her. She lost her memory, vision in her eyes, and now she has episodes every once in awhile and it really takes a toll on her. She remains so strong in not letting it get to her infront of me and my brothers and she strives so hard at her job while going to school. I think a hero is someone who gives but doesn't expect to get. Someone who goes out of their way to help others is a hero. That is my mom. People need heros so they have someone to look up to when they think they have nothing in life. We need someone to tell us that everything is going to be alright when it seems like it won't.
ReplyDeleteMy parents are my hero's! They are always there for me and have got me through some very hard times in my life. My mom gives me words of advice while my dad sits there and cracks jokes about the situation so they are a well rounded couple! When ever i need something they always help me out. They work hard at their jobs and have been successful parents. They try very hard to do everything in their power for my sister and I. They have influenced who I am today.
ReplyDeleteTo me a hero can be anyone who does admirable things. A hero can simply be someone who is a good person and treats people kindly. Or of course they could be someone who has had great accomplishments, such as an athlete or some historical figure.
ReplyDeleteI personally don't really have a hero. I have always looked up to my brother Wyatt, just because he is my older brother. I grew up with him, so he was a huge influence on me as a kid. I wouldn't really consider him my hero though, because he hasn't really done anything that would be considered heroic. Although he isn't as much of an influence on me as he once was, he is still someone in whom I can confide and someone whose opinion I truly value.
My heroes are my parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, and Alicia. I consider them my heroes because I know that if I ever need anything they would be there for me. They are always there even if i just need someone to talk to which is the best gift anyone could give to me. I think being able to give someone the comfort of knowing they're never alone in anything they do is awesome, and I love all my listed heroes for being able to do that for me!
ReplyDeleteI would have to say my heroes are my parents. They are always there for me and they help me all the time. They know how to make me feel better whenever I may need it. I think a hero has to be brave. They should help people without being asked. I think countries should have heroes becuase it gives people something to talk about. A hero is someone you can look up to, someone you can depend on.
ReplyDeleteMy heros are common people you see every day on the street. People who smile at you as you pass by on the side walk. People who hold the doors open at the store for you. Why? We need more kind people in this world. Fire fighters, rescue squads, and people who work in hospitals need more credit. You may assume a hero has to be famous. Not true. Everyone needs a hero. My hereos are my parents who have taken care of me since birth. There are all sorts of heros in the world. They just don't stick out because their name is not said world wide. Every country needs more kind people for heros. People whop help those in the time of need, are MY heros.
ReplyDeleteDo you really need me to answer this one Mrs. M.?? My hero is obviously Brett Favre. First of all, Brett Favre is my hero because he is one of the greatest competitors not only in football, but in any sport. Every game he ever played he gave 110 percent the whole game and left everything on the field. He never gave up. Second of all, Brett Favre's love for the game is amazing. He has played through and uncountable amount of injuries and thats what made hime the all-time leader in consecutive starts which is 321 games in a row. Third, he is one of the greatest, if not the greatest quarterback of all time. He holds every NFL record ever set by a quarterback. Also, in his prime, he was the best quarterback in bad weather conditions. Brett Favre also has played through all kinds of adversity such as his dad dying. The day after his dad died he played a game against the Raiders and it was one of the best games he's every had. His performance in that game was recently named the best perfomance of the past 25 years. Brett Favre is the ultimate legend and hero. I could talk forever about him, but I'll stop here.
ReplyDeleteMy number one hero is my mother. She has been here for me every single second of every day. She has worked her butt off for my sister and I, and I am grateful for her everyday. She has made me the person I am today. She has stood by my side my whole life and I know she would do anything for me. I think that is the reason why she is heroic. Cultures need more heroes like the ones our class has written about because it will help make the world a better place for everyone.
ReplyDeleteI would say that my hero would have to be my older brother. In his time in the service, he has had undeniable acts of heroism, but has also paid for it. To me, a hero is someone that does something or sacrifices something to help save or benefit others. Doing this task, despite the individuals personal concern or belief is the attribute that makes that individual a hero. I think that cultures and countries need hero's to have pride, something to be proud of, and something to be grateful for.
ReplyDeleteMy Hero is my dad. He has been there for me no matter what and always is supportive with whatever I want to do. He always has a listening ear and I know I can go to him for anything. A hero can be defined by many different qualities from saving lives, giving good advice, or just being a helping hand in the community. This is why i think everyone needs someone they think of as a hero. We wouldn't be able to get through life without having that one person to turn to when the going gets tough.
ReplyDelete(by the way this is the third time i responded to this, but this time I could actually post it)
I would have o say that my brother, David is my hero. He is one of the most hardworking, honest and loyal people I know. You know he is a good guy when he can take his little brother with him everywhere he goes for 2 years and not complain once. David does not worry about the little things in life. He just does what feels right to him, which is always work hard and always be respectful to people. David has taught me to be a better person in life. All cultures need heros because I think people just want something or someone to believe in.
ReplyDeleteSorry I didn't blog on friday I was home sick and didn't get a chance to. Soooo...heroes. I would say my hero is my grandpa. He means so much to me and always looks for ways he can help people. He served in the military and loves his country. My family means alot to him and he helps us out all the time. He is one of the nicest people I have ever met and has such a good heart. When I am older I want to be like my grandpa. I know its cheesy but its true.
ReplyDeleteMy heroes are my parents. They have been there for me my whole life. They show me right from wrong and then made sure that I grow up to be the persont that everybody wants to be around. They helped me to establish goals to reach. I believe they are heroic because of the way that they have to teach me what to do in life.
ReplyDeleteOne of my biggest heroes is my uncle John. He's practically been like a father to me in my whole life, taught me things I needed to know, things about life and adulthood. He's always been there and he's always helped me when I needed it. Recently he was diagnosed with ALS and it hasn't been easy on me, so I can't even imagine how it has been on him. But even in the face of such daunting adversity, he still stands strong, and never lets it get him down.
