Play "what if?" Write down some ordinary or preposterous questions, such as:
-What if the world were square instead of round?
-What if no human being had the sense of taste?
-What if someone invented a device that would do all the jobs you hated to do?
-What if people walked on their hands instead of their feet?
-What if dandelions were suddenly considered to be like gold, the most valuable substance?
Write a short story or poem in which one of your "what ifs" came true.

What if people used jet packs on their backs to get around instead of cars? What if there really was a money tree? What if you could switch bodies with some one? What if it was summer all year round?
ReplyDeleteWhat if people used jet packs on their backs to get around? Well if I used a jet pack I would never come back. No gas to pay for, I would be gone in a flash. Town to town, house to house, store to store, you would never see me down. No stop signs and cops man that would rock. Zoom zoom goes my little jet pack as I resume.
What if you could really walk to the end of the earth?
ReplyDeleteThe news is out
The edge of the earth is near
Come, lets take a gander
Be careful not to hit any deer.
It may be some time
Before we reach our destination
Have no fear
For the ride will be a fascination.
It is unreal to think about
To see the end of earth
But a new age is dawning
This is definately a times worth.
So come along with me
As we explore new discoveries
It is going to be pretty awesome
I think we all can agree.
What if everyone could read minds?
ReplyDeleteThe world would become a different place. Secrets would not exist anymore, and nobody could lie without being caught. Unless you mastered the art of never thinking what you're actually thinking, then you would be able to keep your secrets safe. Except that would be a paradox, because you would have to think about it in order to not think about it. Everyone would get used to abusing their power to read minds. Maybe we'd even lose the art of verbal communication. You could tell someone something without even speaking to them. It would be a mess, I actually don't even want to think about it.
What if there was no such thing as music?
ReplyDeleteIf there were no music our world would be so boring. Movies are not as dramatic. You can never tell if a monster is coming because there is no ominous music playing. Car rides are boring and you can't even sing to yourself because such a thing doesn't exist. There is no dancing or singing and bands do not exist. Elevator rides are even more uncomfortable in the awkward silence.
What if we could not talk?
ReplyDeleteTalking is important
We do it all the time
If we could not communicate
That would not be fine
Talking is how we let people know
If we need help
We could not ask
Or even yelp
Talking is important
for many reasons
We could talk about the days
Or even about the seasons
Without talking
Life would be hard
Without talking
The world would be scarred.
What if there was no color
ReplyDeleteeverything would just seam duller.
All the flowers would be white
and the sun not so bright.
The ocean would be black
and colorful fish it would lack.
We would all be sad
and sometimes a little mad.
Because we just want to see blue sky
but instead we just want to cry.
What if Brett Favre ran the world?
ReplyDeleteRoses are red,
Neil Armstrong went to space,
If Brett Favre ran the world,
It would be a better, more awesome, football filled place!
What if people listened more and talked less?
ReplyDeleteBuddha said "The quieter you become, the more you will be able to hear". If everyone listened more we would not miss the little things. We would hear the silent screams for help. We would notice the woods speaking, the birds singing, the deer dancing. We would all get along. We would all hear the music that so many miss.
What if you could disappear? What if you could become invisible when you feel like all eyes are on you?
ReplyDeleteThings could be a lot more comfortable, if you could vanish when you become embarrassed. When someone is walking down the hall and they trip, allowing all the paper that they were carrying to scatter about the place, they could disappear from the scene, until they have everything picked up. Or when a good day becomes embarrassing because, while they were smiling, everyone else could see that the individual had forgotten to floss. However, this ability would get out of hand because, it would not take long before people used the ability to get out of trouble that they committed. It would also separate people more from each other, sense they could always be able hide from a problem and lost the need to confront it.
What if videogames disappeared ? Millions of people would be forced to find other ways of entertaining themselves. They would be forced to go out and actually SEE the sun! All these gamers would actually have to interact with other people and speak to them face to face. It would be madness. They would be forced to find something else to do, so they would try to go somewhere else other then home. But their eyes wouldnt be used to the sun so they would be blinded while trying to drive somewhere else and it would cause accidents all over the freeway! The world would turn to anarchy as all roads would be clogged with the burning cars left from these accidents (so many that emergency vehicles couldnt take care of them all) so no one else would be able to go anywhere. And humans would revert back to more primitive times, using a simple system of bartering. That is what would happen without videogames. This was posted by Cole. But i forgot my password...must have been all those videogames...
ReplyDeleteWhat if there were no deer???????
ReplyDeleteRoses are red
I have a friend named Hover
If there were no deer to be hunted
My life would be over
What if the earth were square...that's a good one
ReplyDeleteWe would have lots of fun
Exploring the corner
And finding the mourner
Who said the world was flat
But then discovered it's all square
We just don't see it there
What would happen if money did not matter?
ReplyDeleteIf the material things that drive
and make us swarm about the commercial hive
disappeared?
If gold and jewels
were not the rules?
If dead men on linen strips
could not tie our hands
and control our lips?
Maybe we chould share
or even have some peace
If the world could bear
To let the craze cease
What if I could be invisible?
ReplyDeleteToday I woke and jumped from my bed
I was completely invisible, from foot to head
I wasn't sure what to think, or even what to do
So I just hopped into my car, started on my way to you
As I reached my destination, I couldn't help but wonder
All the possibilities, it makes my mind flounder.
I parked my car at a distance and made my way to your house
Even though I didn't have to, I went as quiet as a mouse
Just as I expected, you were busy playing drums,
At that, I left it
A sense of envy filled me to all who were able to see
You when they're not in an invisible state, I would be filled with glee
But for now i'll use my powers, until time stops being our enemy,
To see your lovely face, and put a smile on mine
What if there was no school? What would the human race be like? If there was no school, people would have to pass down knowledge. Mouth to mouth, words for words. Learning would be a hands on thing only. You would have a teacher but it would most likely just be your mother or father teaching you the basics of life. We would most likely have no technology. Would it be a better place? Who knows, technology ruins a lot but it also creates a lot. There is no telling really what could be...
ReplyDeleteWhat if the world was actually going to end in December 2012?
ReplyDeleteThe stores and streets were busier then they are on the holdidays. I could barely travel from one end of town to the other. There were so many crimes happening that every five mintues I would either see a firetruck, ambulance, or several police cars flying by. I was actually scared for my life, but who wouldn't be. The world was ending! The stores were empty as theives would run out with merchandise. I didn't know what to do on my last day on earth. I knew what I wanted. I didn't care about stealing useless things from stores or committing crimes just because I could. I was more interested in spending my last day with my family and friends. Thankfully, they were interested in the same thing. We all spent our last moments together at Gooseberry Falls, one of my favorite destinations. We had a picnic and just spent time together cherishing every moment we had left. As evening approached, I began getting more nervous. The earth started to shake and everything turned black. I do not recall what happened after that, but now there is no more planet earth.
