If you were in charge of the school, what changes would you make? Be realistic - don't say video games in every room, etc. because that's not real world. Think realistically and describe what you think school should be like and how it should be run.
I would start be re-doing some classrooms, parts of the hallway, etc. There are times when I feel like the school is really run-down and old, and it doesn't inspire me. If the setting was newer, brighter, etc. I might have a better attitude. I would feel like I was somewhere important that warranted respect. I would also make the male teachers dress more formally. Not tuxedos, but definitely buttoned up collared shirts with ties. Again, it's a respect thing-for the student and the teacher. Students would see teachers as more solid authority figures, and the students would also feel that the teacher has made more of an effort and has higher standards, inspiring them to do the same. I would also like uniforms for students, for appearances sake. In regard to rules, I would permit open-campus. If kids leave after lunch too much, kids don't graduate. That is their problem, and the rest of us should not be limited by the stupid ones. I would also love AP classes. It's not just about earning college credit (although that would have been really nice!). AP challenges and prepares students for college-level work and is seen as the standard high school material by competitive colleges. We're probably ahead of AP in some areas--but really behind in others. I've heard that we don't offer them because the school doesn't believe that enough students would take/ pass them. Having never offered AP in recent years, how would we know that? More focus on the arts would be nice as well. The arts are fantastic tools that can be used to expose students to other parts of the world and other types of people. I would make 2 semesters of art or music mandatory for graduation.
ReplyDeleteI would also give the lunch ladies extra sick days so that they aren't preparing food when they have a cold, etc. Also, I would have all of the kids write down clubs that they were interested in forming at the end or beginning of each school year, and form only the clubs that had enough interest. It's stupid to keep having the same clubs just because they're already established when there are things that might get more student interest.
ReplyDeleteWell first of all I would have open-campus for kids at lunch time, because if people don't like hot lunch that the school is serving they usually don't eat so open campus would let them have a second option. No wonder some students can't focus the last half of the day, they didn't eat a good lunch. I would also make the school a more fun place to be. I go to some high schools and they have their walls are painted with awesome colors and designs because the art room painted them. I think our school seems so drab some times-white walls, dark rooms, orange lockers(why orange? Our school color is red!), etc. I think it would make the school a more pleasant and fun place to be. Also, the elementary just made pies for the veterans and do a lot of fun things, and I think the high school should do that more. Even though we are high schoolers we still like to have fun and it would be nice to see the "fun" side of the teachers come out! Another thing that I would change is have vending machines for kids to get snacks-it can be healthy food-I just know how hungry I get around 3rd and 4th hour and it would just give me a little boost of energy. The last change I would make is offer AP courses because it would give us a better head start to college! I enjoy our school and there isn't a whole lot I would change.
ReplyDeleteI would have open lunch so kids could go home to eat or run errands during school. My old school had open lunch and it was really nice. I would also allow i-pods during study halls and during work time. My rule would be that the music cannot be heard by other students and it cannot be used when a teacher is teaching. I would also add vending machines with healthy choices. My old school had one plus a juice and water machine and everybody used them. Those are the only real changes I would probrably make.
ReplyDeleteIf I was in charge of the school, for breakfast I would have a much better selection. Like fresh fruits, eggs, bacon, ham, and a small choice like graham crackers. I would also have hot freshly brewed coffee and cappuccinos that you could help yourself too. I would put mirrors on every corner of the hallway so you don’t have to put up with the awkwardness of running into another student when you take the corner too fast. I would allow running in the halls as long as there is no one else in it with you. I would allow drinking coffee and the cappuccinos in class. I would allow kids to be on their cellular devices only if the teacher is done teaching for the class period. IPods will be allowed during study halls as long as only the listener can hear it and not others around him or her. Phones can be used in the hallway and at lunch. At lunch you would have the option of open campus. But if you did not feel like leaving for lunch you would have choices at the lunch line. Everyday there would be a pizza and French fry buffet a real salad bar with real options, FRESH fruit bar, hamburger and sandwich line, and whatever is on the menu. When eighth hour comes and let’s say you are done with everything for the day, you have the option of leaving 15 minutes early so there is not a cluster of kids trying to leave the parking lot at the same time.
ReplyDeleteI am not sure what I would change. Probably the lunch menu. I think students should have a say in what we get for lunch. I would give students one workday each week in every class. We get a lot of homework and it gets very stressful. I would be more strict about bullying. I hate bullies! They are mean and if they choose to bully they should not be in school. They should not get a warning, they should get one chance and if they bully they get expelled! Those are the main things I would change.
ReplyDeleteI would love to have healthy vending machines available all day. I feel that with a vending machine, people can buy snacks. When a school lunch is nasty, I always bring a yogurt or sandwich. I think it would be really nice to have the option to get a healthy snack. Also instead of pop, have PowerAde and other healthy drinks, like apple and orange juice. Open campus would also be amazing. People sneak out how it is now, so having it be legal would be great.
ReplyDeleteI would give more options for lunch and definitly get rid of hot ham and cheese. I would allow open campus for sure. I would have teachers have meetings on when they have tests so they dont all have tests on the same day. I would have vending machines in the senior hallway. I would make sure the teachers know their place and not let them make their own dumb rules and think they run the school.
ReplyDeleteI would have open campus. Students would have more options for lumch and it would help the town economy. If students didn't come back, they would just get in trouble for it. Vending machines with snacks and drinks would be really nice as well. School is not a great place for anyone, but these things would help make it more enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteI think that vending machines would be a good idea for the school. Students may not eat as much for lunch that way, but it is healthier to eat a lot of small meals in a day then a few big ones anyway. I don't think that open campus would be a bad idea.I think that it would also be nice if the school days were only four days, even if we had to stay in school a little longer, it is dark a few minutes after I get home anyways.
ReplyDeleteI just got home and I have a really, really terrible headache. That's irrelevant though. I would make the school have an auditorium and a swimming pool. I would also add a couple necessary sports such as a horse riding team and a soccer team. I don't really care that nobody would do either besides myself. Then I would make all the kids wear uniforms, because I don't like smelly clothes or clothes with holes.
ReplyDeleteI would have the school have open campus for lunch. I would also make an area for the dance team to practice in, with mirrors and wood flooring. I would get a pool that we could swim in whenever we want. I don't know, I don't really care all that much... I'll be out of here in less than a year... So... uhhh?
ReplyDeleteThe first thing I would change is having the school have open campus for lunch. I get really sick of only having one options for lunch all the time. I would also allow students to have their cell phones and ipods during the noon hour, which would be a longer time than we have now. I would give the girls a team room because it is not fair that only the guys get a team room and the girls have to share with every gym class too. I would also paint the lockers and give this place some color, other than brown. Red lockers would be cool wouldn't they?
ReplyDeleteI think that school shoud be open campus for lunch. If you do not like what the school if providing and you ran out of time to make lunch, you should not have to not eat lunch. I also think that we should be able to have our cell phones just not while we are learning something in class or takign any sort of test. But, they should be allowed during lunch and in between classes.
ReplyDeleteDefinetly an open campus luch and we'd be able to leave whenever we want. Also, there would be amazing sports locker rooms and a nice training room with an ice bath and a hot tub. That would be amazing. I would get new jerseys for all of the sports too. I would also get Brett Favre to come to the school and work with the football team.
ReplyDeleteWe really have a nice school with fairly loose rules so I guess I wouldn't change really anything. Open campus would be nice but I don't see myself using that very often. Maybe 4 day weeks with longer days. Although I don't know if I'd like that either.
ReplyDeleteIf i were in charge I would allow the students to go to the bathroom whenever they want. If they abuse the policy..it's their loss. I would also allow open campus during lunch time. It's not my fault the school serves the most disgusting food ever. We should be at least allowed to go down town and get something edible. I would upgrade the interior of the school as well. I think we should have our school like some in Wyoming. They don't have school on Fridays. I would also hire some new teachers. . ( Don't worry, not our English teacher ;) ) hmmm.. I think that's all I got for now.
