We've all gone to conferences, conventions, or field trips for our classes, activities, or jobs. What is the best/worst conference, convention, or field trip that you've attended and why?
The worst was an FBLA leadership conference at the Ramada (or Plaza?...the round one) in Eau Claire. I learned absolutely nothing about effective leaership. We did a bunch of activities with a bunch of disinterested students from other schools in which we repeatedly had to state our name, school, and a selection of racts about ourselves. These were geared at getting us to accept differences in others and to not stereotype, which I knew without having to spend a lot of money to go to a conference. Plus, nothing about it pertained specifically to business. It was super general.
I really enjoyed the leadership conference that I went to in Elkmound the year before last. It was aconference for athletes. Student athletes from our conference were there. It was fun to talk to the athletes and get to know them better because you usually just see them on the court/field/track. The speaker was enthusiastic, but not over whelming. The theme of his speech was also very easy to relate to and he used real life experiences. I really liked the speakers message. The thing that was the best though was that we got subway for lunch! :)
I've went to a lot of horse type conferences for different organizations that I've been in for showing and breed registry and whatnot. They are always really lame because half of it consists of prizes and the other half consists of elaborating on things I already know.
I do not know if I am having a mind fart or what but I seriously cannot think of any important field trips that I have been on. My old school did not let high schoolers go on field trips very often. I guess my most fun trips have been going to the nursing home and the acoustic cafe with choir. I especially liked going to the acoustic cafe because I like the setting there, plus I got really good coffee and chili! Otherwise I cannot think of any other trips I have been on since I have been in high school.
I think my favorite field trip was either when we went to Como Zoo or the MOA for advanced biology. I love zoos so that was a lot of fun for me. And I am very interested in biology and going to the body museum thing at the MOA was really interesting.
I cannot think of a bad field trip. Getting out of school is the best, no matter what you are going to do. Earlier this year we went on a trip to judge soil for Mr. Millar's class. It was cold and a bit annoying, but the trip to get a lunch at Taco Johns and to hang out with my classmates was a blast. Not to mention we got out of school for most of the day! I love field trips and I think our awesome college prep class should go on one, preferably the zoo. :)
The best convention that I went to was the National FFA Convention in Indianaplis, Indiana. I went with Meghan, Karly, and Chelsea. We had a blast meeting people from other states that do what we do in FFA. There were people from all over the United States and we learned about infinite potential. We went with other schools from around here. Meeting all those new people and being involved in FFA was super exciting.
I would have to say my worst field trip would be last year when Mrs. Neuberg took us to Festival of Nations. It was very crowded there. And a little kid smacked my butt and ran away. Heather saw it coming and did not tell me. I was very mad at her. If it would not have been so crowded it wouldve been more fun. It was a good experience but it was a bad field trip.
I have not really had a bad field trip. I did have one that turned out pretty interesting though. I was going to ValleyFair with the youth group at my old church. On our way there, our bus broke down. The other bus could take some of us, but 7 of us and the bus driver were left. We ended up waiting there for about an hour, and finally a coach bus came and picked us up and took us the rest of the way. That was the only time I've ever gotten to rida a coach bus. It was definitely a memorable experience.
I have to agree with Heather :) The convention was amazing, and we got to see Lady Antebellum (Yes Mrs. M, there a country band and you would hate them) and we had amazing seats. I really don't know what the worst has been, probably some of them that are pointless but we get out of school. Which is a horrible thing ;)
The best is by far state FBLA. It is very fun there. You usually get to go to a nice hotel and room with your friends and do whatever you want. Then if you place in the competitions you get to go up on stage in front of thousands of people. Its pretty legit. Plus there is usually a lot of attractive women there and that can never hurt.
I guess that the funnest field trip that I have had would have been the physics trip to Valley Fair. Before that I had never been on a roller coaster. The best, but at the same time, most disheartening trip that I have had did not involve school at all. However, I would much rather tell that one in person.
Favorite field trip? Hmm.. Well we went to como zoo when we were in 5th grade think and that was pretty fun as I remember. When we went to UW-EC earlier this year is was fun because we had to walk around campus and see things for ourselves. And I don't remember a terrible field trip because it is always nice to have a break from the class room.
The best field trip I ever went on was to the MOA for FBLA. I thought it was really interesting to learn information behind the scenes. I liked learning about the new additions they plan on having done to the MOA in the next decade. It was also interesting to learn how much money the MOA takes in each year and how much it costs each retail store to rent a space. Also not to mention shopping was also fun and I got to miss school. ;)
I remember when we were in like... I don't know 6th grade? And we had a class trip to the YMCA. I don't know why, but I thought it was awesome. We all were doing flips off from the diving board and we got like 100 or something.. ha... uhhhh
I loved our FBLA state trips. We have been to some fun places. While its kind of an awkward experience, walking around with a bunch of nerds who dont know where theyre going, we always make it fun. We go swimming and watch movies together. The coach bus rides are fun and we all load up with snacks before we leave. I hope I go to state again this year it is always a fun experience.
