What are some of your holiday traditions? Mine start with Black Friday shopping. Then I have to watch A Christmas Carol - the old black-and-white version. The Saturday after Black Friday, my mother and I get together to do our Christmas baking. Best of all, every year we leave for Florida to go golfing over break. What are some of your preparations/traditions leading up to the holidays?

I always watch Charlie Brown on the holidays. I do not know why I love those shows so much but I do! Then my mom, sister, and I usually make homemade candy together. We make chocolate covered mint, lemon, and hazlenut candies. We also make a lot of cookies. My dad and grandpa have started coming over for Christmas now. We do not have any specific food we eat, last year we had Italian and this year we are going to do a brunch.
ReplyDeleteI first go Black Friday shopping, usually with my cousin but not always. Then I do a lot of baking for my friends but this year I baked with Garrick's mom, Dawn, then I did my own. On Christmas Eve, I always watch A Christmas Carol with all my cousins on my dad's side of the family. We usually watch it twice in a row too. Before we watch the movie, we all go to church for the Christmas ceremony and then go back to my grandpa's. We open presents and eat a lot there and then everyone usually leaves except my family because we always sleep there and on Christmas morning, my brothers and I drive back to my mom's to spend the day with her. I love Christmas!
ReplyDeleteMy family usually goes to New Jersey every year for the holidays, but we are staying home this year. Christmas in NJ involved a big Christmas party at my great aunt's house, presents at grandpa's, etc. Pretty classic. We don't have a lot of traditions at home leading up to the holidays. We don't bake or go Black Friday-ing, and we didn't even get a tree for our house until a couple of years ago. We usually light the menorah if we are home during Hanukkah. This year, we have a tree at home. I assume that I'll spend a lot of time doing homework by the fire.
ReplyDeleteMy Holiday traditions start out by black Friday shopping. Then we always watch a Christmas story and Miracle on 34th St. We usually do some baking and this year we have a new stove to bake in!! We always decorate our house together. Lacey and I have to supervise my mom's decorating because she makes it look like Santa threw up!We always go as a family to get our tree at Pleasant Valley and then sit around drinking hot cocoa and decorating it.
ReplyDeleteWe don't really do much of anything that is unique to our family. We always make a lot of Christmas cookies. We also always eat the same thing on Christmas Eve for dinner. Other than that, we kind of just chill.
ReplyDeleteWell on Christmas Eve. we go to both sets of grandparents. We eat luch at one and dinner at the other. It is a lot of food but it is good so I do not care. Then we go home and wait for "Santa" to come. The next morning we get up and open our presents. After we are done with that mom makes cinnamon rolls and tons of other food. We never eat actual food just snacks. That is our Christmas traditions.
ReplyDeleteWe usually do all of our christmas shopping together, since my whole family is really hard to shop for. My Dad's side of the family usually does a christmas thing in January, and my Mom's side usually get together the week after Christmas. It is pretty laid back, and a nice time to relax.
ReplyDeleteThe weekend after thanksgiving we always set up our tree. Katy and I put the branches in, mom and dad put lights and beads on, then Katy and I put the ornaments on. Christmas Eve we go to my Aunts house to celebrate with my dads side of the family. We always have spaghetti. Then we go to the Christmas Eve church service then go home and open presents. It was my dads family tradition to open family presents Christmas Eve. Christmas morning we eat a big breakfast and drive to minnesota to celebrate with my moms side of the family. I love our christmas traditions and I will be home for every part of them next year
ReplyDeleteMy family has a tradition of being awesome around the holidays. Baking cookies, putting up a tree, wrapping stuff. The usss.
ReplyDeleteEvery December my family goes on a month long vacation to Greenland to see where my family came from. Its really fun to meet all my relatives that live there. Also, you can see Santa's workshop from my grandparents house. Santa and my grandparents are pretty good homies actually.
ReplyDeleteWe really do not have any different traditions than any other family. We always go Black Friday shopping, and put up a fake tree. We go to church Christmas Eve, then at Midnight, then again in the morning at 10. We always un-wrap presents youngest to oldest, and have a big wrapping paper fight then play with all of our 'toys' the rest of the day.
ReplyDeleteMy families holiday traditions are a little different. Our biggest tradition is to eat oyster stew every Christmas eve. We normally try to get as much of the family together as possible. Another tradition we have that is more common, is that we open presents from the oldest to the youngest. Christmas is normally pretty fun at our house.
ReplyDeleteEvery year my mom, dad, two brothers, and I decorate the Christmas tree together. My mom and I baked many many many goodies to enjoy the winter season. We spend all day Christmas day together enjoying our new gifts. Every Christmas Eve and go over to my Granda Steffe's and most of my Dad's side of teh family is there and we enjoy a huge meal and exchange gifts and watch sappy Christmas movies. It's a very special time for me with my little family's traditions.
ReplyDeleteWell I always go Black Friday Shopping. That same day I put up our Christmas tree and decorate our house. At my moms Christmas we always have to eat this breakfast meal that she thinks is so good, but it's really not. We do not have many other traditions other than going to my great grandmas on Christmas Eve and reading the bible verse. Other than that we do not have many typical traditions.
ReplyDeleteWell I know one tradition I don't like; Basketball practice over Christmas break. the practices are always so hard and the practices take forever. I am not looking forward to that at all. Since we have practice, I probably should not eat cookies or other sweets so it is kind of a downer.
