2-22

Well, I guess blogger doesn't want to work at my house this week. Sorry that this is so late getting posted.

Here's your blog: If you could UN-invent any technology, what would you un-invent and why? Personally, I would un-invent video games. I believe that too much time is spent on those games when it could be spent reading or doing other fun activities. I feel like video games is one of the reasons that an obesity epidemic is occurring amongst American children. Instead of getting exercise, kids are sitting on their butts all day playing games.

  1. I agree with Mrs. Myers. I think video games have been the worst technology invented. Kids sit around all day playing violent games on the internet which is causing many problems in the children today. I agree that it is a reason for obesity as well. I also think that it is part of the reason why kids are so violent these days, they think it is okay because they sit around killing people on their video games all day. I think it is super unhealthy to sit around all day long without any fresh air or exercise. I am pretty sure the world would be fine (even better off) without video games!

  2. I would UN-invent social networks. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy my Facebook a lot, and it keeps millions connected. I enjoy seeing what my family and other friends have been up to far away through happy status updates and pictures. But besides that, social networks are pointless, time consuming, and annoying. Studies have proven that drama and social fights in reality are at a high because of social networks. It is easy to be a bully over the internet. Most people have difficulties saying things to another human’s face but those whom bully seem to have no problem running their mouths through their keyboards. Studies also have proven fights caused by jealousy over social networks updates, creating the feelings of being left out and so forth. Also many high school kids and college kids mentioned quite frequently how Facebook distracts them from their home work and studies. I agree with them, Facebook or any other social network is way more entertaining than studying, but it is also a waste of valuable time. I am sort of a Facebook addict myself. I especially am not a fan of twitter. I have nothing against those whom “tweet” but the constant updates must be annoying. “So and so is playing basketball, now they are driving home, now they are brushing their teeth and using the toile, etc”…… Seriously, I do not and many others do not care to hear a play by play of your boring every day. I cannot stand when people bring up a conversation about their own Facebook status; there are many more great things to talk about than that. Social networks are great way to stay connected; I just wish this social life was less of a huge part of some people’s everyday life that is why my feeling would not be hurt if social networks were un-invented.

  3. I don't want to be overly unoriginal, but I would also agree with Mrs. Myers on this. I would obliterate all video games. It seems like people live vicariously through the video games, because they can't do most of those things in real life. This may not apply to all video games, but when people could be out living their lives and doing something REAL, they instead choose to sit around and control what happens on a tv. It also promotes violence and leads ignorant minds to believe that video games are somehow based on real life. Because you can die on Call of Duty and just start over again is a very misleading concept. People somehow think that because Call of Duty is fun to play, it would also be fun to fight in a war. They don't understand that operating a firearm, getting wounded, or dying in real life is not even remotely close to how it is portrayed in video games. Or maybe I'm wrong, and they merely just enjoy wasting their time and are not mislead. I don't really care either way. Boo video games.

  5. I would un-invent Twitter, Facebook and any other social networking. It is a place where people can get cyberbullied and called names. I think it is pathetic that people have to put others down on the internet because they have nothing better to do with their lives. I cannot stand all of the social networking sites sometimes. They are pretty much useless.

  6. I am also going to agree with you, I would UN-invent video games. I think that children/teens/and even some adults spend WAY too much time on them. Some of the content of the games are extremely graphic, and people wonder were children get idea about shooting and killing people.

  7. Just kidding :) I would actually un-invent high gas prices. The news that gas may hit $5 per gallon this summer is crazy! If we could just keep prices of everything low, life would be so much easier an people would not need to cut back on everything else to pay for gas. The classic "sunday drive" is completely nonexistent now. I think that used to be a great family builder that is cotally un feasible now because it is so expensive. Also, people go on way less vacations now.

  8. I'm not a big fan of video games. My argument is basically the same as everybody else's: they waste time, increase obesity, promote violence, etc. There are many aspects of social networking sites that I strongly dislike, but it's easy to put on filters and block people if you don't want to associate with them online. I would not un-invent them. Maybe I'd un-invent non-universal device chargers. They're pretty annoying, and my tangle of wires is starting to scare me. There are not a lot of other tech things that I'd get rid of, because they were all invented to meet a need or serve a purpose. Anything can be abused--technology isn't necessarily the problem. Maybe we should just re-design tech stuff to make it more conducive to responsible use, or learn how to use it in a responsible manner.

  9. I would have to 100% agree with Kyler. I wish all the social networking sites were un-invented. They used to be fun in the beginning, but now all it is, is just a major drama fest. It's a place for people to gossip and just cause drama. I just deleted twitter and tumblr because of those reason. I'm sure I'll be deleting facebook soon, but I like to have that to keep in touch with my family. I think if didn't have all these social networking sites, people would spend a lot less time on the computer and spend more time doing things that are more productive. I also think it would decrease a lot of the drama, because people wouldn't be able to make comments about other people without saying it to their face.

  11. I actually disagree. I don't think that video games themselves are the problem. I think that people's growing lack of motivation is the issue. People have the choice to play video games or to go out for a walk - no one is forcing them to do anything. They are becoming less and less active and disconnected to the outdoors, but I don't think this is strictly because of the new technology. People have changed a lot in the recent years with the progress of technology. However, personally, I enjoy a nice video game every now and then, but I DO NOT let it become something that distracts me from getting out and doing other things. I think if we fix the lack of motivation in people, video games wouldn't even be an issue.

  12. I would un-invent things such as texting. Really, this technology allows people to say anything they want, without concern for hurting anyone. Some people are also completely unaware if they have caused anyone harm in texting. If people were not able to interact in such an impersonal manner, then they would likely take more consideration in what they said, or wrote. Yes, this technology has a lot of convenient uses, but it is frequently being abused.

  13. I'm really unsure. I think technology is a major part in our lives. Some video games require excercise like the wii and dance dance revolution and video games require hand movements and use memory skills like where the buttons are so I thing it's okay to a point. I really don't know I can't think of anything today except the test... I'm quite scared for it. We'll see. :)

  14. I would un-invent cell phones. Cell-phomes can be so useful when they are used for the right reason, but most of the time thats not the case. People are beginning to be more and more social awkward because they aren't use to talking to people face to face. A lot of people are beginning to no beable to communicate effectively because they are always on their phones. Most importantly people are texting while driving! Also people say things in text messages that they normally wouldn't say to some one in person. You don't know the tone that some one is saying something so often times people take things the wrong way through text messages.

  15. If I could un-invent something it would probably be video games also. People play way to many videos games when they could be outside in the fresh air. I do not play many video games beacuse I can't keep my attention on them for more than five minutes. People play video games for way to long and there are little kids who are playing games that are not suitable for their ages. Kids are learning things that without video games wouldn't be so prominent.

  16. I have no idea what I would un-invent. Social networking can get annoying I guess and it would be nice at times to not have anything like that, but whatever.

  17. I have been sitting here for 15 minutes trying to think of something. I know there has to be something I would un-invent. Thinking...thinking...I think I would un-invent food that is really bad for you. I don't know...that's the best I got for now. Sorry Mrs. M.
