Let's do a pre-reading activity: What do you know about British culture, literature, and history? Why do you think senior year is devoted to British literature?

  1. I know absolutely nothing about British history or literature. Only the things we have learned in a history class. My guess about why we learn about it senior year is probably because it is important and it has a major effect on the writing of today and how the world is now. It is probably also important to learn to get a better understanding and to help us know about it when we go to college

  2. I do not know much about British literature. I am hoping that after this year when someone asks me that question i can ramble on endlessly about it.I think it has a great impact and affect on all literature, and what we are going to learn in the future.

  4. I honestly don't know a whole lot about British literature. I know that it has had an impact on American literature and culture but not much more than that. I do find it interesting how greatly religion and rulers and wars have had such a great impact on the books and stories that were writen at that time.

  5. I think I know a fair amount about British culture because it is something we have talked about in class a lot, especially with the royal family and things like that. The only history I know is what connects with America, like the revolutionary wars. I dont think I know any literature.

  6. I remember almost nothing about British culture or history and I do not know anything about it's literature. I believe that we are learning it because it had a great impact on what happened to our country and if things were done differently there, then things would be done differently here today.

  9. I don't know a great deal about British literature and history but I do hope to learn about it. I believe that learning about it is important because the language that we speak and the way we live today was heavily influenced by british literature, history and culture.

  10. To be honest, I really don't know much about British culture or literature. I think we are going to be learning about it this year because it probably has a lot to do with our literature and history in America today.

  11. I know there is a french fry, and english muffin, a danish pastry. I can't think of anything British. I know they like to have royalty with kings and queens. I think that our english class will be focused on Brisish literature because America is slacking in the literature department and I am an excelent example of that. I would like to have a wider vocabulary and know how to use words better than I do.

  13. What I know about the British culture, history, and literature:
-The Olympics were just in Great Britain.
-Prince Harry is in the news a lot right now. Something to do with him with another woman, or something.
-The spice girls are from somewhere around there.
-One more thing, I know they like their afternoon tea and their crumpets. ;)
I think we are learning about it as seniors because in college they probably touch on it a lot and it has so much to do with our writing style and where it originated.

  17. I guess I don't know to much about British literature. I think that we study this type of literature because the British shaped our country, in the beginning. We were under their rule for a wile during the formation of our country, so obviously their literature influenced ours.

  18. What Reed knows about British culture in three steps...
    1) Interesting accents
    2) Horrible teeth
    3) Much fancier than America
Much of our literature is based off of maany concepts and styles originally from british literature.

  20. I do not know a lot about anything British. Quite frankly, I fail to know a lot about American literature, history, and culture. I couldn't imagine why we are learning so much about British literature our senior year but I bet Mrs. Myers will tell us!

  21. My knowledge of British culture amounts to the facts that they loved their tea and wore giant wigs. I am, however, glad that senior year is devoted to English literature and culture because their history shaped not only many aspects of America but the world.
