10-19

Imagine that you are five years old. Your mother has taken you grocery shopping with her. You're having a great time, walking beside the cart, looking at all the cool items that you want Mom to buy for you. All of a sudden, you look up and Mom is gone. Write this scene. What aisle are you in? What feelings are going through your head? What do you do? Do adults help or ignore you? Do you find her again? How?

  1. We're in the Menomonie Co-op because every now and then, my family gets on a real health-food kick. When I look up and Mom is gone, I am at the end of an aisle, looking at the random non-food items that they sell at grocery stores. At the coop, it's probably Smartwool socks and various hand-knitted things. I've been oggling some colorful socks that would stretch all the way up over my knees. When I see that mom is gone, I panic. Before acting, however, I grab the socks because maybe she'll be so relieved when she finds me that she'll buy them for me. Then I start running along the length of the store, peering down aisles as I go. A nice lady wearing a mumu and Bob Marley t-shirt says that my mom is by the produce department. I walk over, and there my mom is, looking frantically for me.

  2. We are in Target. My mom and I are in the cereal isle and I stop and stare at a box of cocoa puffs that looks bigger than I am. I contemplate how to ask my mom to get me the cereal and when I turn around to present my proposition she is gone. I turn the other way and she isnt there either. I turn the other way and see my mom turning around the isle. I race after her yelling mommy! I get to her and when she turns around the lady is not my mom just wearing the same color. I start to cry. The friendly lady smiles at me and puts her hand on my shoulder to turn me around. There is my mom standing at the end of the isle looking relieved. I run to my mom and wont let go of her hand until we were back in the car.

  3. My mom and I are getting groceries at Wal-Mart. We like to get food there because they have so many choices for a good price. We are pretty much through all the isles when we come to the frozen food section. Mom is looking at pizzas and other various foods. I of course go straight for the ice cream freezers. I love ice cream so much. I am just gazing at all the fantastic flavors trying to pick out my favorite one. After I sit there for about 2 minutes contemplating on the flavor, I finally have picked the one. Chocolate ice cream with huge chunks of real chocolate chip cookie dough. Yummmm! I turn to find my mom, but she is no where to be found. I silently freak out to my self but calmly walk to the end of the isle and look both ways in a little panic. I see her near the apples so I bring my prized possession over to her and she loves me so much that she buys the ice cream for me. Yay, I love my mom! :)

  4. My mom and I are at Wal-mart getting groceries. We just got done visiting some friends and family and I behaved really well so my mom said she would treat me to my favorite fruit snacks, PRINCESS fruit snack! She said she would pick out some cereal while I walked to the end of the isle and grabbed my fruit snacks. When I turned around to go find my mom all I saw was the isle full of people. So I ran to where my mom was suppose to be, but she wasn't there. I began to panic so I went to the next isle to see if my mom was there, but she wasn't. My heart began to pound really hard, I didn't know what do to. So I went back to the fruit snack isle thinking that I just didn't see her and sure enough there she was. She said she just went through the other isle because she couldn't get her cart through with all the people in the isle. After that I asked her if i could sit in the cart until we left!

  5. I am five years old. I am checking out the cereal aisle. I have no intentions in the flavor I have in my hands but the toy has caught my interest. I look over to beg Mom to buy it for me but she isn’t there. I look up and down the hall and slowly start walking to the end. I look left and right but she still isn’t in sight. Panic slowly starts to flow through my body. My head is racing with many thoughts. Did Mom decide to leave me? Does she not want me anymore? I start racing throughout the store, looking up and down every aisle as I run by. Adults stare at me and as I zoom through. They don’t understand my story but I know they are thinking “someone needs to control their child”. After two laps around the whole store, I stop and start to cry. She is nowhere to be found. She left the store without me…. How could she do this to her only daughter? The panic is making my head and heart hurt… The tears don’t stop flowing. I am now a homeless child…. I hear a soft, sweet voice behind me.
    “You ready to go sweetheart?”
I turn around. “MOM!!!!” I run to her and hug her legs. Grab her hand and don’t let it go till we get home.

  6. My mom and I are getting groceries in Walmart. We are in the middle of debating what kind of juice we want to get. I am busy reaching for the apple juice when I realize she is gone. I am pretty chill about the whole thing. Instead of looking for her, I decide I'll pick up a few other items that weren't on the grocery list. I grab some ice cream bars and candy. Other people shopping in the store are looking at me questioningly, as I am a young child shopping on my own. The ice cream I am carrying starts to melt as I wander aimlessly around the store, searching for my mother. Luckily Walmart is open 24 hours, so when midnight rolls around, I kind of just hang out inside a clothes rack so nobody sees me. By now I have given up on the ice cream thing. I live the rest of my life inside Walmart, because my mother never comes back.

  7. Mom and I are grocery shopping at Walmart. We are in the candy isle where I am looking at a giant bag of Tootsie Rolls. When I looked up my mom was gone, I started crying, I felt lost. People were walking past not helping at all, which made me cry even more. I thought she might have walked to a different isle. I start walking around, looking down the other isles. I saw her standing in the noodle isle, I was so relieved to see her again.

  8. I am five years old at Fleet farm. We go about once a week to get stuff for the animals, and not to mention, Farm and fleets TOY LAND! I get separated from my mom, but I don't worry, because now I can go were ever I want in TOY LAND! I look at all the dolls, and decide they all look funny. Next I go to the toy tractors, but boys only play with them. Then I find my favorite toys, the huge rack of farm animals. I stay there awhile and play with all the animals on the floor. One of the employees, which I sort of recognize, come and tell me that my mother is looking for me. She takes me to my mom, and I'm happy yet sad. Happy I'm back with her, but sad because we have to leave. I can not wait for next week, when I come back and play with all the toys in TOY LAND!

  9. So I am in the camo aisle at Scheels, and am trying to imagine myself getting all kinds of amazing camo stuff. My mom said that she was going to look at new running shoes, but I didn't hear her, and when I looked up to ask her if she could buy me this awesome camo hat, she was gone, I started calling out for her, but couldnt find her. Since I look exactly like my brother, some lady that was walking by and asked me what color my mom was wearing. I told her, and she said that she just saw my mom walk past going to the shoes. She took me over there, and all was okay. My mom felt really bad for leaving me behind, so she got me the hat I wanted, and a really cool shirt!

  10. I start walking around by myself and all of the sudden I get kidnapped by a huge, muscular man. He takes my to his evil laboratory. There he trains me how to be a master in Brazilian Jujitsu. I get amazing at it and soon I learn to fly. I start to work for his kidnapping business even though I am only five years olod. I fly all over the world, kidnapping little foreigners from grocery stores. Soon, we have a booming kidnapping business and I am the co-owner of it. It turns out that the other owner is Brett Favre. Brett ends up adopting me and we decide we should probably stop the kidnapping business because we have over 150,000 little kids running around that are amazing fighters. Instead of a kidnapping business, we decide to have an underground fight club for little foreign kids (UFCFLFK). We have up to 50 kids fight at a time, but we never let it get out of hand so nobody ever dies usually, unlike what Michael Vick did to all his dogs. We're not that kind of people. Our UFCFLFK is extremely successful and eventually the fights start getting televised. Brett and I are the richest father-son combination in the world now and we can buy anything we want so we buy the NFL, but turn the NFL into the UFCFLFK and host the fights in NFL stadiums around the world. When one of the fights is at Lambeau Field, my mom goes to it and finds me! She tries to take me away from my dad, Brett, but I told her how rich I was and I told her that she could become a co-owner too. My mom took me up on that offer, but not before she grounded my for kidnapping little foreign kids from grocery stores.:(

  11. I am five years old and at the grocery store with my mom. We are having fun picking out the food we are going to eat for the next week. We get to the meat area and I get sidetracked by the live lobsters in the aquarium. I stand there watching them and when I turn around to tell my mom to look at them, she is gone! I remind myself not to panic and attempt to reassure myself that she probrably just did not notice I stoppped and will be just a couple aisles ahead. I try to put on a face that does NOT scream I am lost and start walking around like this is what I do all the time. Eventually I find my mom, just a few aisles ahead like I thought. I am relieved and I hold on to the side of the cart for the rest of the time at the grocery store.

  12. I am at Wal-mart with my mom. She was getting the weeks groceries, and at the age of five, I was dazzled by all the toys in aisles near by. I stopped and looked for a moment at the toys, but when I turned around, my mom wasn't there! At first I look around in disbelief that this happened, but after a minute, I began to worry. I nervously walked around the aisles and began to walk faster as I had failed to see her. Finally, I found my way to the canned produce aisle, where my mom was. My mom asked,"Did you have fun?" but I was simply relieved that I found her.

  13. So I was hanging out in the cart, just minding my own business when I notice my momma is nowhere to be found! I'm pretty ticked because I need her to grab the cookie crisp off the top shelf. So I'm sitting there all mad when Shaq Daddy comes strolling down the aisle. He was getting some cookie crisp for himself so I asked him if he could grab me a box. He did. Then he adopted me and we lived happily ever after..until I woke up back in the cart with my mom checking out..she didn't get any cookie crisp..

  14. I look up and my Mom is gone. I really don't care, because I don't care. I'm young and in a candy isle. I have absolutely no problem with that. So I just sit down and start eating a candy bar until my Mom finds me again. Problem solved.

  15. I'm actually grocery shopping with my dad because I don't think I've ever went with my mom.. but anyways! I am walking beside my dad in the baking isle. He always makes sure to buy me things to make cookies. Although he acts like it's a treat for me to get stuff to make cookies, I really think it's a treat for him since he eats them all! I get distracted by all the sprinkles and different kinds of frosting. I look up and my dad is gone! I call out "DAD" really loud, but like usual I don't have a loud voice so it's not like he could hear me anyways. I don't worry too much at this point because I just start walking down the other isles. As time goes on I start freaking out. What if he left me? How am I going to get home? What if i loose my dad forever? At this point I start crying because I have no idea where he is. Someone stops me and asks me what's wrong. I know it's okay to talk to them because it was a worker. I told her my daddy was missing so she brought me up to the front. All she did was call his name or this weird speaker thing. About 20000 minutes later my dad shows up ! Oh how I was relieved! I gave my dad a big hug and told him to never loose me again!

  16. I wanted some candy so I went down to the candy aisle thinking my mother was following me. I look up to talk to my mom and I realize she is gone! I freak out wondering where my mother had gone. I do not know what to do! What if someone tries to take me? Then a really nice old lady started to walk towards me because she can see that I look worried. She tells me to follow her to the help desk and they will call for your mother to come get you. My mother told me to never do that again because it was just as scary for her as it was me!
