A parable is a short story that contains a moral or teaches a lesson. A parable is usually an allegory. An allegory is where the characters and the events stand for something else. For instance, the works of Aesop are parables. The animals in the stories stand for people and the events that happen to them are used to teach a lesson. Example: A dog had a bone. As he was walking over a bridge, he gazed into the water and saw another dog who had a bone. Now our dog was greedy and he thought that two bones would be better than one, so he opened his mouth to bite the other dog in the water and take his bone. Of course, his bone fell into the water and he was left with nothing. Moral: Be satisfied with what you have because if you're greedy you could lose what you have.
Think of a lesson that you would like to teach others. Write your own parable to teach that lesson.

A little bear cub was playing in the woods one day when he started to get chased by dogs. The little cub ran to mama bear and she scared them off. A few days had gone by and the little bear started to get chased again so he ran to mama bear and she chased them off. A few more days went by and the little bear cub was being chased yet again so he started to run to mama bear, but she was no where to be found. Moral: Fight your own battles because you never know when "mama bear" isn't going to be there to help you.
ReplyDeleteA little yellow bird was in his nest one day. We flew to the tree across the field and met a blue jay. He scared the blue jay away and ate all his sun flower seeds. Feeling satisfied the yellow bird flew back home. The very next day the blue jay came over with a few of his bird buddies and they scared the yellow bird away and took his whole winter supply of food. The yellow bird was very hurt and upset and he regretted being mean to the other birds.
ReplyDeleteMoral of the story, treat others how you want to be treated.
There once was a kitten in a very bad mood. All of the other kittens were happily playing with yarn and napping in the sun. One of the rolls of yarn rolled over to the sad kitten, and he tried to swat it away. His claw, however, got caught, and he ended up getting tangled in the yarn. All of the yarn had to be cut up so that the kitten could be released. All of the other kittens then became very sad and angry because they couldn't play any more. Moral: Your attitude has an effect on others--keep it positive.
ReplyDeleteThere once was a little lamb who thought it was hilarious pretend there was a wolf to scare the elder sheep. This little lamb would always come screaming out "WOLF! THERE IS A WOLF!" All of the rams would jump to action to gaurd the herd but they would soon find out that the lamb was joking. One day the lamb was out for a walk and he actually saw a wolf. When he went yelling and screaming home the rams just ignored him. The wolf came out of the woods and the sheep panicked. Luckily their shepherd was there to save them. Moral: never cry "wolf".
ReplyDeleteOne warm summer day, two swallows were trying to get the same bug. One swallow was slightly faster, so it got the bug first. A while later, they were going after a bug again, but the swallow that lost before was more aggressive and it got the bug. The two swallows become jealous and angry at each other, so they fought any time the other was going after a bug. They started becoming so involved in trying to steal from on another, that they got to the point that none of them were catching anything. By the time winter came, neither swallow had the energy to fly at all, and they were left to bare the cold of the winter. Moral: don't become too involved in competition, or you risk losing everything.
ReplyDeleteThere was a little girl eating with her parents. They had homemade potatoes, and pork roast for supper. The eating area was next to the living room so you could see the television. The little girl told her mommy that she did not want to eat her potatoes because she did not like them. As her mother thought about what to say, a sad song and a commercial on the television appeared. A child was sitting outside with bearly enough clothes to cover them and they were holding an empty bowl. It said, "for only $1 a day, you can save a childs life..." and the little girls mother points to the television... "act now! there are children in africa that need your help. Donating today can help kids in need of food, shelter, and clothes." The mother told the girl to be greatful for what she has. The little girl ate her supper after that.
ReplyDeletemoral: Be thankful for what you have; there are people out there that would be greatful to have what you have.
So there was this man who was a "big time" hunter. But lately, he had been having poor luck and could not see any big bucks. But this hunter knew that the neighbor had seen large bucks lately. So this hunter took his gun and went hunting on his neighbors property during bow season. Within 15 minutes of hunting, a large Boone and Crocket whitetail came within the man's view. Without hesitation, the man shot and killed this buck. He couldn't wait to find his buck. It was the biggest buck he'd ever shot. When the man found his buck, his neighbor and the police were standing over the buck. The man was placed understand arrest and sent to jail. The man was fined but the man couldn't pay the fines so he died. Moral: be statisfied with what you have and don't let a hobby such as hunting cause you to lose control.
ReplyDeleteThe teacher gave a pop quiz to her students. The students started the quiz, which was on nothing they have been learning, but instead of little common sense things. Everyone breezed through the test, besides the last question on the quiz which was "Name at least 2 cooks in the kitchen". After everyone had turned in their quiz, a student asked "Is all the questions going to be graded" the teacher responded saying "Yes, why?" the student replied "Well, the last question was ridicules! I mean, who needs to know the lunch lady’s names?" The teacher was disappointed with the question, then proceeded to tell her "You will met several people in your life, and everyone is significant to you in some way."... The Moral is that everyone is important and will help you somehow, sometime, even if you don’t realize it. Everyone deserves a bit of your attention, even if it is a simple "Hello
ReplyDeleteThere once was a happy squirrel that was, in many ways, different than all the other squirrels. He was smaller than the others and was sort of odd, but was always happy and thankful for what he had. All the other squirrels made fun of him for being different. The little squirrel was effected by his peers saying bad things about him that he decided to change. He decided he would start acting more like the other squirrels and be "normal." When he changed, the other squirrels began to like him more, but he was not happy. He thought to himself that it is very exauhsting trying to be something he's not. After this, he went back to being his old self and was happy as can be.
ReplyDeleteMoral: be who you truely are, not what others want you to be. Your friends will like you for you and won't expect you to change for them. If they do, they are not your friends.
There once was an elephant who liked to call the other animals names. He did not care if they were his friends or not but he did not have anything nice to say ever. One day things took a turn. The elephants friends started to tease him about how long his trunk was and how it was like a fire hose. The elephant ran home and told his mother that his friends were calling him names and picking on him. She told her son that that is what he deserves for calling all his friends names. She told him that he learned his lesson and it was good that he now felt bad for what he was doing to his friends. The little elephant said that he will not do that again.
ReplyDeleteThere was a little cow that cried "bear!". His friend cow came waddling, but there was no bear. The little cow did it again the next day. Again, his friend came waddling. Once again, there was no bear. The next day, the little cow cried "bear!" and this time, there actually was a bear. Thinking that there actually was no bear, his friend cow did not come to help. The bear ate the little cow. Don't cry bear.
ReplyDeleteNow I just read Maegan's post... I had no intentions of having the relatively same story. Whooopsies.
ReplyDeleteOnce upon there was a girl named Amy who found her true love. They were together for several years, but then all the sudden she met someone else. After a few weeks she left her true love who treated Amy like an angel. LIttle did she know that the guy she expected to be with was married and now her ex would not take her back.
ReplyDeleteMoral: Don't take anything for granted. Once you're happy don't question the "what ifs" in life because that will get you into trouble and you will end up just like Amy. You will have nothing in the end because of greed. Instead live life to the fullest and be happy! Don't try making yourself more happy if you are already REALLY happy.
Once upon a time there was an amazing quarterback named Brett Favre. He was a three time MVP and played for the Packers for 17 years. On his 18th year, a stupid GM named Ted Thompson traded him away to the Jets and he eventually went to the Vikings. His first year with the Vikings he beat the Packers twice. Moral: Don't trade away a GREAT player!!!!!!!
