Community service is very important. What community service activities have you participated in where you have felt like you've really made a difference? Will you continue to perform community service once you've graduated from high school?
I have worked for a SID's volleyball tournament for several years now. I have also worked for a St. Jude's softball tournament for the same amount of time and I feel I have helped in many ways. My aunt was babysitting a child when it died of SIDS. My aunt had a hard time getting over it. We all realized that we would never want to go through that so we do a fund raiser to create awareness and also raise money for research. I have always cried when the St. Jude's commercials come on the tv. I think what they do is just wonderful so I help out every year when they have a softball tournament to raise money. I would really like to keep doing community service after high school. It not only makes me feel good, but it also helps several people.
ReplyDeleteWell ive been volunteering for close to 3-4 years now. Not as much as I would like too because of working also. I know I have made a difference. Especially my first year. There was one person who had been there for years, and refused to leave there room. Not even to eat. Was very depressed. There gone now but I was the only one I could get them out of there room. In fact during the summer we splatter painted. They called it the whip it. And after being there for so long I've managed to start an art room and it's a weekly activity for many students. I can tell art was a major part of there lives. Some can draw better than I can. I've not only made a difference for them, but they changed me completely. I'm a whole different person when I volunteer and work. I used to be really shy and I've really made my way up on the seniority list. I'm proud to say I've made a difference and it feels good. I've also volunteered at Dunn county what ever that nursing home is called, lakeside (wisdota health now) when i was like 10 or 11, and I've volunteered in a few aroura group home. Ive also stayed after and helped a teacher. But.. Yeah anyways I plan to continue to volunteering.
ReplyDeleteResidents** ugh I hate text auto correction. Always puts the wrong words
ReplyDeleteI have helped out with a lot of things during my lifetime. I have helped my dad out with the Kiwanis in preparing for their chili and spaghetti feeds. I have helped numerous people with little things such as taking their kids off their hands when they just need a break for an hour. I plan on doing community service after I graduate and a lot in college because it makes me feel good about myself that I am helping others out.
ReplyDeleteI was a volunteer at Luther Midelfort Hospital the summer before last. During Sophomore year, Lea, Ted, and I collected clothes, shoes, and stuffed animals to send to Haiti. I think we ended up with over 2000 pounds, plus a circus tent that could be used for shelter that Ted's dad got donated. I'm in FBLA and NHS, so I've done small projects with them (roadside cleanup, stacking firewood, etc.). Freshman and Sophomore years, I was a Relay for Life volunteer. I used to play violin at nursing homes, and I still provide music at community functions when asked. I'm in a quartet in Eau Claire through the youth symphony that plays for free for various events. I plan to continue community service work throughout life, but I hope that I can incorporate it into my career instead of just having it be something I do on the side as a volunteer.
ReplyDeleteAs Abby has already stated, along with her and Ted, I was involved in a huge Haiti relief project my Sophomore year. We collected a ton of clothes, stuffed animals, toys, and other miscellaneous things for children in Haiti after a natural disaster. We were able to collect 2000 pounds of items. I also volunteered at a hospital over the summer after my junior year. I've also fed the homeless multiple times, and I have played piano many, many times at nursing homes and frequently at the healing garden in Luther Hospital.
ReplyDeleteI do a lot of volunteer work and I plan on doing a lot more at Winona State. My biggest project was when Ted and I organized a coat drive to deliver to Joplin, Mo. after a tragic F5 tornado. We planned for months. And we set out boxes to gather clothes and coats. After a month and a half of gathering coats we hand delivered them to Joplin Missouri. We helped victims pick out coats for themselves and family. While in Joplin I stayed at a homeless shelter and I got to prepare and hand out food for those who have no home or families. Ted is probably the master at volunteer work. But I have worked at many Blood drives since I was ten. I bake a lot of cookies and pies for charity fund raisings. I have taken care and walked dogs at my local veterinary clinics. I have worked at many Veteran organizations. I love to help others and it gives me a satisfied feeling in my heart. Every year I decide to do something bigger and better than the last volunteer job I accomplished. :)
ReplyDeleteI have done a lot of community service because of NHS. I do not even remember what I have done. I plan on doing community service once I graduate. At the college I am going to community service is important so I plan on continuing community service.
ReplyDeleteThere are many things I have done for community service, but the one that sticks out the most was when I helped my mom at her church for Feed My Lambs. We cooked an entire meal and picked up children all around the Eau Claire area and provided them with a meal that they would normally not receive. I have done this numerous times, and it really makes me feel proud when I see the smiles on these kids’ faces. We also play many games with them and give them an afternoon of fun. I love doing community service things and I hope to find time to continue it out of high school.
ReplyDeleteI have done a lot of community service. I enjoy helping out wherever I can. I definitely plan to do community service in th future, but possibly in a different capacity. I volunteer every week as the Games Director at AWANA. I enjoy that, but wirking with kids is definitely not my specialty. If I could volunteer with Habitat for humanity or a similar company at some point, or a tech crew for a musical would be much more up my alley.
ReplyDeleteI feel that collecting food in food drives for the local pantry I think is the best. Mostly because all the food stays local, and it helps people that I may know. I like helping any organization, but I feel that keeping it local is best because then you have the satisfaction in knowing you helped someone nearby to you. I defiantly plan on volunteering in the future, because I feel that the more you give back to the community the most you will receive in return.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy community service. NHS has pushed me to participate in more community service hours. I really like helping with the food pantry. Our youth group at church has found that we have a bunch of fun serving food to the homeless at the hope gospel center. It makes me feel good to help other people and will definitly keep doing it out of high school
ReplyDeleteI really like doing community service. I started when I was a freshman. I volunteered at St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth. I started out working in Pediatrics where I would play or read to the children there. It was kind of sad because a lot of the children were really ill, but I enjoyed making their days a little more fun. I then worked in the gift shop for awhile. My last year I worked in Surgical Survices where I would get the cots cleaned, get oxygen masks ready, etc. That was a lot of fun because I got to be around the surgeons and nurses and see what life is like for them. Now I do teacher aid for Mrs. Fiege in the elementary school as much as possible during eighth hour. I LOVE doing this! I mostly help with reading and some math. I like knowing that I am helping these kids understand and learn more, plus it is the best when the entire classroom of first graders get super excited when you enter and give you hugs whenever they see you :) I plan on volunteering during college, hopefully with kids. I also plan on volunteering at the humane society because I love animals as well!
ReplyDeleteI have participated in quite a number of volunteering activities since I have been in NHS. I believe that my favorite activity would be volunteering for the humane society/Pet store, because I get to walk around and care for the dogs. I do believe that I will continue volunteering after high school, because it is a for a very good cause, and you can know that you are making good use of your time by helping others.
ReplyDeleteI just recently had an experience that seemed to be a worthy occurrence. So throughout this winter I did some reffing at youth basketball tournament. There were these 5th grade boys from bloomer that I could remember from one of the tournaments. They were good little guys. These same boys came to watch us play against Colby on Saturday. Out of everyone, they were the first people congratulate me on the win. It was a rewarding moment knowing that the boys remembered me and then came to the game and found me.
ReplyDeleteBecause of the National Honor Society, I have been able to participate in many different community service projects. Since I feel like these activites that I have been involved in have been greatly benefical to me, I definitely will be doing more in my future. Although I agree with Abby. In college, I would hope that the projects I am involved in are more related towards what I am looking to be when I am older.
