Brrrr!
So, what do you think about these government bills which are geared toward the internet? Do you think that they're a good idea? There's suposed to stop pirating of music, movies, etc., but many say that it's censorship. What is your take?

I think they're going way too far. I know that they are just trying to stop pirating, but it won't work. People will just find other ways to do it. Blocking and censoring so many of the sites that we use every day is too much though. The internet became the amazing site that it is today due to us having access to almost anything. One example I heard, was some companies want to shut down eBay and Craigslist because people are selling their used stuff instead of going out and buying new. That is crazy! In our hurting economy we can NOT buy all new things all the time. I think the government is just trying to take control of yet another aspect of our lives.
ReplyDeleteI do not really know what I think of all of this. I have not really done any research on it but by the sound of it I would guess they are going too far.
ReplyDeleteI do not know much about what is going, but from reading bits and pieces I do not think what they are doing is such a good idea. The internet is something we are free to use whenever, whereever, and basically however. If They plan on restricting us from cites, first of all it will not work, and second of all it would be like the whole world is in high school where most cites are prohibited.
ReplyDeleteI do not really know about this but I have heard about it. I am mutual and don't really care! As long as I can still do research I am okay with it.
ReplyDeleteWell to be perfectly honest I haven't even heard about this. I hate politics! If they are trying to block websites to stop pirating, what is this world coming too?! Nothing is cheat any more. We get music free online because if I had to buy every song I like, I would be broke! I think we have bigger problems in this country to worry about! Like um maybe our ECONOMY! What they are doing is just going to cost more money!
ReplyDeleteI'm in the not-knowing-what's-going-on boat. I definitely oppose pirating music and movies from the internet. If more and more people steal instead of purchase media, it will be even more difficult for artists to make it professionally and a lot of small or independent artists might not survive at all. Stealing a digital file is like walking into a store and stealing a DVD. On the other hand, however, I am wary of anything that might limit the internet as it is such a powerful, world-altering tool. I need more information.
ReplyDeleteI would have to say that I am not particularly fond of either side. Both sides seem to be extremes. I am not saying that I am for pirating music and movies, but I am not for the other extreme of blocking every site that we use. This would not only effect peoples entertainment, but it would also effect our education.
ReplyDeleteI haven't honestly spoken to one single person who is for this bill. Because of this, I honestly don't think it will pass because of the fact that so many people would be outraged. Obviously they want to get rid of the pirating issue because record companies are literally falling apart because of it, but I'm afraid that's part of the repercussions of having such an advanced system of technology. It's like anything else; it has both positives and negatives, and you can't have a foolproof system, at least it doesn't seem likely. Too many people enjoy the resources out there that would be obliterated because of this bill. They would be destroying some of the things that people enjoy most about the internet. I feel like we have much, much bigger issues at hand than Wikipedia, which I frankly don't consider a problem in the first place. Yeah, Wikipedia probably isn't a good source for a research paper by any means, but if I want to know what Lady Gaga's real name is, Wikipedia is always there to give me the answer to those pointless and irrelevant questions that sometimes come up.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I think it is a very awful idea. I think that even though the purpose of it is to stop pirating and so forth, but I don't think it will work anyways. I think that if someone with enough computer knowledge really wants to, they will figure it out. I know many people that are outraged over the subject and I have seen many post on Facebook and etc. about signing the petition to stop the passage of it. So, yeah. Not cool.
ReplyDeleteI do not think that it is a good idea. People are still going to find a way to do it because they always do. Peole find a way to do anything if they are persistant enough so I think that it may stop some people but surely not everyone.
ReplyDeleteWell, I care about ploitics but in some cases (like this) I really DON'T care! This whole thing is a waste if time and money. These is no point, because even if they block some sites people are just going to figar out other ways to copy/download music/movies
ReplyDeleteAfter searching Ask I found your site about Installing BlogEngine.NET on GoDaddy . I think both are good and I will be coming back to you and them in the future. Thanks
ReplyDeleteI think it is wrong that websites are doing a black out because we use those specific websites everyday. I do not really care about politics so I do not really have much of a say in this but I do think it is wrong.
ReplyDeleteI do not think it's right for the goverment to want to take away all the rights of the internet. Although, I do agree that there could be some more regulation on some of the websites, but I do not think they should go as far as shutting down facebook, ebay, craigslist, etc.
ReplyDeleteI literally have no clue what you are talking about. I'm sorry.
ReplyDeleteYeah mrs. M I'm with Hayden. What Internet bills?
